Better Off Read

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is one that I wish I would have read in print. It's a decent, entertaining story. But the writing is just okay and there are parts of the story I would have liked to just skim over. I felt really impatient while listening to this.

Have you listened to any of Emma Galvin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't. But even though I didn't love this audio book, it was more the story than the performance that turned me off. Listening to this has actually inspired me to check out more of Emma Galvin's performances because I think she is a great narrator.

Any additional comments?

I probably would have loved this book if I were 20 years younger. It's a great YA read. And while some YA reads can transcend ages, I found this one difficult to relate to as a woman in my 30s. So if you're a young adventurous person trying to figure out your place in life, read this book now while you'll enjoy it! If you're past that point in life and into dystopian future stories, seek out some Margaret Atwood or Octavia Butler.

Great story, worth the time

This story first seemed to be a copy of The Hunger Games but as it went on, the similarities really didn't matter and the story took on a life of its own. The book is written for younger crowd than me, I assume. The writing was simple and there was a lot of back and forth between the characters that simply annoyed me but fit within the story. Once I got past that, I definitely got into it.

I loved the book the first time I read it; however, listening to it on my daily commute I learned things about the story I missed the first time.

What a wonderful book! I just downloaded Insurgent and if it is anything like Divergent, I'm not going to be able to stand it waiting for the next one to come out! Although I feel silly at 32 reading YA books, you just can't argue with good writing!

Four is such an amazing character, the wonderful connections between his complexity and his born selflessness and Tris is the perfect complement.

I enjoyed this even more than the Hunger Games series as Tris is a more confident character and I enjoyed this aspect.

Great Read.

I have always enjoyed this story since it was first published. Emma Galvin is a great narrator.

I honestly am I big fan of the movies, but the audibles are a bit not as exciting, I only say this because the narrators voice is hard to tell who is talking, she has a nice voice though.

My first audiobook

I really enjoyed listening to the story. The only recommendation would be to have the narrator put more emotion and feeling into the story. The narrator sounded the same though the entire book and there were some parts that were pretty intense as far as plot, but the narrator's inflections didn't really change like I was expecting. Even so, I didn't have any trouble listening to this all the way to the end and found it to be a great way to have my mind occupied while working on some craft projects.
