Publisher's summary

The Valefar boy tricked Ivy Taylor into kissing him, but he took much more than a kiss - he stole her soul and left her within inches of death.

By surviving, Ivy is drawn into the conflict between the Martis and the Valefar. The war between these two immortal forces has raged for millennia without distraction. Until now. Ivy is an anomaly - she is the only person who has ever walked away from a demon kiss alive. Her survival gives her unique and deadly abilities. Too powerful to ignore, Ivy is a threat to both armies. These two ancient enemies will stop at nothing to kill the seventeen-year-old.

Surviving is nothing new for headstrong Ivy, but her survival has never depended on another person before. This time it does. And if she misplaces her trust, she's dead. To her horror, she starts falling in love at the worst possible time - with the enemy. He appears to be protecting her. But she can't be certain if he is trying to help her, or help himself to her power.

For Ivy, trusting the right person is the difference between love and survival, or a deadly demon kiss.

good story, bad narrator

Martha Lee (narrator) ruined the book for me.what would have been quite a good read, turned into an exercise in patience! her overly dramatized voice and the way she emphacizes and pauses dramatically at inappropriate times, made me regret purchasing this book.

Only halfway done and disappointed!

The writing is very immature and I found the narrator very irritating. I really like the genre, but this story is very hard to get into.

Not bad, some good twists.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters continued to evolve and motives and actions were revealed consistently throughout the book. Good ending.

What about Martha Lee’s performance did you like?

A little hard to get into the accent of the main character at first but eventually it grew on me.

Not for me, awful narration.

I could not get past the fourth chapter, the narrator was just awful. struggling to get the words out. Maybe I'll finish the book by reading it myself!!!

Narrator is so bad...

I really would like to get into the story, but the Narrator is so bad I don't think I can listen to the Audio. I'll go try my Kindle version.

Just plain awful

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I didn't even listen to more than a couple minutes of this book.

How could the performance have been better?

A smoother sound not so robotic. Too many pauses between letters in the same word too long of pauses between words.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I could not even listen the book sounds like it is being read by a computer voice. It is very robotic. Just awful.

Any additional comments?

This book got buried down my audiobook list and I just got to it and I hope I can return it.

I never got past the 1st chapter..

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I love all of HM Ward`s books, BUT this one needs help. Please try again with someone else narrating. Her voice drove me insane , plus she reads like its the first time ever... I simply could not get past the first chapter.

What was most disappointing about H. M. Ward’s story?

Who knows, I never got that far.

How could the performance have been better?

Someone who can read without a STRONG Jersey accent and can add something, anything to the life of the story.
