Publisher's summary

"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

Lauren Oliver astonished readers with her stunning debut, Before I Fall. In a starred review, Publishers Weekly called it "raw, emotional, and, at times, beautiful. An end as brave as it is heartbreaking." Her much-awaited second novel fulfills her promise as an exceptionally talented and versatile writer.

Also included is a sneak listen to the first chapter of the next book in the series. Enjoy!

Sarah Drew made this book come to life

Would you try another book from Lauren Oliver and/or Sarah Drew?

I'm about to get the next book in this series. I like the heroine enough to see what happens next, though the story itself was a bit flat.

What about Sarah Drew’s performance did you like?

Sarah Drew carried me through this book. In parts where I would have probably put a physical copy down, Sarah reeled me in with emotion and fast-paced reading during high-stress moments, chase, scenes, and the rush of young love. She made me feel it when the lead character lost her sense of control and when she overcame her fears. Her voice put me in the mind of the teenager.

Do you think Delirium needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The book is designed for the next in the series. I didn't even have to ask if there was one. Of course, aren't all YA books designed for trilogies now?

Any additional comments?

I know a lot of YA books seem to cover some post-apocalyptic or post world-changing event (Hunger Games, Water Wars, etc.), but this story brought me right back to high school when love and all the emotions that came with it seemed to have life or death impact. In Delirium, love is a disease, or determined to be one by the government. Just when our teen heroine Lena is ready to become a member of the

love love love

What made the experience of listening to Delirium the most enjoyable?

This is my second listen to this novel. Anxiously anticipating the release of book 3, I wanted to re-listen to the series to have the story more fresh in my mind. I loved it just as much the second time around. Great story, brilliant writing and OUTSTANDING narration. I would give the performance 10 stars if I could.

What other book might you compare Delirium to and why?

None

Have you listened to any of Sarah Drew’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Delirium was my first time listening to Sarah Drew.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I found the whole book very moving. This was my first "dystopian" fiction novel and I was a bit apprehensive about the subject matter. Not really a genre that attracts me generally. The author told the story with such meaning and I truly cannot say enough great things about the performance of the narrator.

Wow!

I would read this book again. The descriptions flow like poetry-- they are vivid and the story is creative. A different society where the characters are read with distinct voices. Very interesting world. Very good narrator.
I haven't felt this involved with the characters of a book for a long time. Listening to characters come alive is like having a picture painted in your head and it only gets more exciting as you listen further. A great start to a trilogy!

Good for when you're bored

Some parts were a bit predictable but overall it was a great book. The voice actress's attempt at male voices results in almost all of the male characters sounding alike, but she still did a pretty good job.

I loved most of it

What did you love best about Delirium?

Really good characters and emotions and ideas - I could easily put myself in their shoes.

I also loved what the book made me think about. Because there are people in the book who are 'cured' from having to love other humans... and the author shows the impact of life without love... I started to think about that. Who we love is so clearly connected to our ability to choose. I reconfirmed my opinion that it is our choices that truly make us individuals. It is our choices that define us.

What other book might you compare Delirium to and why?

Its a little like Divergent and Hunger Games. They are all distopian fictions, all viewed through the eyes of a teenager coming of age. And... each of them cause you to think about our current society and your own choices. In this book there was a close examination of love - and the choices we make - and what it would be like if we didn't have those choices to make.

Which character – as performed by Sarah Drew – was your favorite?

The main character

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked it all

Any additional comments?

Just a warning.... I generally read YA fiction to avoid sexuality, swearing and violence. I get that doesn't bother some listeners, but its not my thing. This book definitely had swearing, although not a lot of it. I wish that had been excluded. There was some mild violence, but it did not bother me. And although there was not a sex scene, there was definitely a scene where it came pretty close. That could have been left out, in my opinion. Just some information for those of you deciding whether to spend a credit.
