Publisher's summary

The hotly awaited second book in the dystopian Matched trilogy....

In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky - taken by the Society to his certain death - only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.

Cassia's quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander - who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia's heart - change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.

Critic reviews

"Cassia and Ky grapple with secrets, wilderness and the tumultuous meanings of love in the second installment of this addictive, layered dystopic trilogy... Although two-boys-one-girl triangles run rife in this genre, Condie’s is complicated and particularly human, involving real emotional scars... Both rich and easy to digest, this will leave fans hungry for the third book.” (Kirkus, starred review)

“Told in alternating chapters from their points of view, the book gives readers full access to the hearts and minds of two memorable characters. Their needs, love, and internal conflicts are palpable. Their voices are distinct and authentic, and the writing is often poetic.” (School Library Journal)

"...vivid, poetic writing... Condie immerses readers in her characters’ yearnings and hopes.” (Publishers Weekly)

Just as good as the first!

Book 2 was just as captivating as book 1! A tiny bit unrealistic at times BUT it makes for a good story. I loved the addition of the second voice actor.

Why did the music had to be added?!?

The music played in some scenes is very annoying. It is not well matched and rather that creating suspense it pulls the scenes down.
Overall the story and the reading is very good though.

Capturing! Great for a 2nd book in a series.

This book was incredible! I was sucked into a different world, and I didn't want to stop listening. It wasn't as good as "Matched" but it was very good for the second book in a series. I gave this 4 stars because I felt that around the middle to the end it started to feel drawn out and repetitive, and I think that's because this book is more focused of the emotions and thoughts of Ky and Cassia versus the plot. Overall, I can't wait for the 3rd book!

Great Narration

This trilogy is both entertaining and intriguing. Match that with the sweet voiced narration that Kate Simses provided and you have a winning combination.

Enjoyable science fiction

I Enjoyed the story and reading although it leaned a little more to the romance genre than I usually like.

okay

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I enjoyed Matched and I knew by the ending of Matched that Crossed would have to be different. But it was very slow, I did enjoy it more towards the end but just as I finally got interested it ended. I will read the final book because I have come this far in the series and the ending to this book makes me want to find out what happens. If you read Matched, you should read Crossed, just be prepared that its slow. I also I didn't like the voice of Kyle...

The Journey

In the second book Crossed, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in search for Ky. Ky had been taken by the Society to fight or be killed. When Cassia finally finds the last place Ky had been but discovered Ky had also escaped. She had no choice but to find clues so she could find him. This leads Cassia to question the Society and their rules. She knew it was Ky she was suppose to have a future with and not Xander. Even still to be with Ky meant rebellion and betrayal. It seemed nothing suprised her about the Society anymore, like double crossing the others and leading Ky and the rest to their death. Just like the first book Matched, Crossed is beautifully written, touching, and intelligent. Absolutely brilliantly written and I can't wait for the third book in the series, Reached.

crossed

I like how they used character voices while reading the book. I very much enjoyed the book and how it was laid out. It showed 2 different perspectives and left you on edge after every chapter. I very much enjoy this series of books and in general, just all utopian society books.
