Publisher's summary

City of Fallen Angels take up where City of Glass left off. With Valentine out of the way, Clary thought she and Jace could finally be together--but when someone starts murdering the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine's Circle and leaving their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to destroy the new peace between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, she realizes the past can never be left entirely behind. As the Shadowhunters scramble to find out what's really going on, Jace breaks off all communication with her, refusing to tell her why. Desperate to help him, Clary plunges into solving the mystery, coming ever closer to a secret whose revelation may mend her relationship with Jace--or rip it apart forever. Meanwhile, when Camille Belcourt, the elegant bloodsucker who used to rule New York's vampire clans with an iron fist, returns to the city determined to re-establish her control, a vampire war is born. Only Simon--the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side--can decide the outcome; too bad he's caught up in his own complicated love life and wants nothing to do with Downworld politics! Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.

Way to grow the stakes!

Every book I read makes me think surely, she’s going to run out of surprises! And then Cassandra Clare does it again! What a masterful display of growing stakes. The inconsistencies like Amatis’ continued to make me cringe, but the storyline made it all worth while.

Story is a good one but readers not so good

What three words best describe Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performance?

Readers not so good... Listen to Molly's part at 1.5 time... It helps a little! Guys sound too different from 1st three books...

Terrible narration by Ed

This book was on par with the three previous books in the series. Unfortunately the narration was terrible from Ed Westwick; His attempts to add emotion and suspense resulted in his words being lost in the background noise. He also mumbled quite a bit and trailed off in volume. Maybe if I was listening in the quiet of my room it would be better, but don't most of us use Audible to listen on the move? I realize that the mumbling was intended to match the character, but come on, narrators should never mumbled. I'll never listen to another book narrated by Ed Westwick!

Good Story, get rid of Molly, 5 stars for Ed

A good story nearly ruined by the whine of the narrator. Ed Westwick has a deep and rich voice well suited to this story. Intermixing Molly Quinn is as big a mistake as changing the recipe for Coka-Cola. One chapter is rich and enjoyable, the next is fingernails on a chalkboard. Please don't use her as a narrator anymore. Yes, she can read. Yes, she tells the story well. But her voice is completely wrong for this type of work. I am listening to this for enjoyment. Ed's voice adds to that enjoyment. Molly's voice makes me want to skip to the next chapter. Other than that, bring me more! A nice addition to the series. A bit predictable at times but still a good book. Glad I pushed through the whine to hear it all.

City of Fallen Angels

I found this installment in the Mortal Instruments series both interesting and incredibly frustrating. I found Simons storyline, and his Daylighter capabilities, and the Mark of Cain to be the most engaging part of the story. I also enjoyed the spin of Lilith and her demon babies to be an interesting addition to the story as well. We had heard so much about Liliths children in the first few books and now she is incorporated, which I thought was a nice little spin.
I did not enjoy one iota of the massive amount of teenage angst in this book. Simons love triangle was weird (out of character) and obnoxious. And I wanted to just skip almost ALL of the Clary and Jace scenes. If I have to read another book where the lead characters blame themselves for all the bad things they do to each other whilst under demonic influence, I’m gonna tear my hair out. “It’s all my fault!!” “No no, it’s MY fault.” Also, teenagers aren’t great about communication skills, but these teenagers are stupid on steroids. I was very ready for the book to end, as Jace was unbearable at the end.

I also listened to this on Audible, and the narration wasn’t great. They both sounded depressed and had very little inflection in their voices. Should’ve stuck with either the first or second book narrator.

Awesome book especially if you have read or listened to the first 3 books in the series.

How did you mess up the actors so bad...

by book four it would be nice if they got someone who could pronounce the names, at least pronounce them the same between the two actors... or get the accents right. why did they all go from vaguely British to thick new Yorkers between the last three books to now.

My husbsnd and I loved this book. We could not turn it off. We have always been a huge fan of Cassandrs Clare books, but this was out of this world.

Horrible Narration

I actually didn't make it very far into this book before returning it. The narrators were horrible. It was actually ruining the story. I will have to read the rest of the book rather than listen to it.

2 Readers

The female performer is absolutely terrible. Her voice is very unsteady and slightly nasal. Having the reading switch between two performers was unpleasant. Although I really enjoy the Shadowhunter series, this particular performance was not enjoyable.
