Publisher's summary

City of Fallen Angels take up where City of Glass left off. With Valentine out of the way, Clary thought she and Jace could finally be together--but when someone starts murdering the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine's Circle and leaving their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to destroy the new peace between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, she realizes the past can never be left entirely behind. As the Shadowhunters scramble to find out what's really going on, Jace breaks off all communication with her, refusing to tell her why. Desperate to help him, Clary plunges into solving the mystery, coming ever closer to a secret whose revelation may mend her relationship with Jace--or rip it apart forever. Meanwhile, when Camille Belcourt, the elegant bloodsucker who used to rule New York's vampire clans with an iron fist, returns to the city determined to re-establish her control, a vampire war is born. Only Simon--the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side--can decide the outcome; too bad he's caught up in his own complicated love life and wants nothing to do with Downworld politics! Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.

Good Story, Terrible Narration

I was really looking forward to this installment in the Mortal Instruments series, but I was sorely disappointed with the narrators, but not the story. I loved Molly C. Quinn when she appeared on Castle for all of those seasons. I don't know what went wrong here, but she was terrible! She mispronounced Idris throughout the entire book and she spoke so soft and at times so sickly sweet it was impossible to enjoy. I don't think I've ever seen Ed Westwick in anything, and although the time this was produced, he was not way too old for the part, he sounded like a 45 year old British guy that Frank and smoked too much. Why use a British guy to portray a 16 year old American boy when he still sounded British? I adore a British accent, but not where it doesn't belong. I noticed Molly will narrate the next book, and then someone with even worse reviews. I'm not illiterate and reading has always been a passion since I learned how to read. But, unfortunately, I suffer from severe chronic headaches and reading for more than just a bit here and a bit there causes much more pain than I care for. I count on good narrators to bring books to life, and this was not it. Will I suffer through more bad narrators to get to the end of the series, probably, because I like the story, but I'm not happy about it. I could always read it the old fashioned way, but that would be painfully slow. I don't know which is worse. If the samp!e for book 6 really is worse, snail's pace here I come.

Narration

What three words best describe Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performance?

Although Molly is very articulate, I doNOT feel her voice matches the characters for this book. Its a bit hard to listen to.

inconsistent

although I'm really enjoying the books I'm on book 4. and there is absolutely no consistency from reader to reader. I understand that each reader has their own way of doing it but when names are pronounced completely different places are pronounced completely different sometimes they have accents sometimes they don't( the characters not the readers) it would be nice to have some consistency in a book series like this

Poor narration can ruin a story

So the story is good, not great, but readable. Sadly Molly C. Quinn is a horrible narrator. She sounds as though she is reading through the story for the first time, and using a robot voice for fun. There is no change in tone or inflection and I never know who is speaking. Further, if a novel is going to be narrated by multiple actors it seems to me having them voice the same characters throughout would make more sense than having them both narrate the same characters during different chapters. I get that the chapters are written from varying character perspectives, but it would really help the continuity if the voices did not change. Truly, the director(s) in this endeavor should be horribly ashamed that they allowed this work to be sold in such a sorry condition.

One final note...would it kill someone if a series were narrated by the same actors all the way through?

Male narrator mumbles

This book has both a male and female narrator, but the male is often difficult to hear and understand. I'm sure he's trying to sound sullen and dark, but it comes out like mumbling at times. Otherwise, story is fun!

Performance

What aspect of Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performance would you have changed?

Ed Westwick was fantastic. Molly, I'm sorry, but your performance just seemed odd alongside Ed. The two did not go together. It created a weird identity complex for the characters.

Love this book

I really love this series and this book. I do wish that a consistent narrator was used for the series.
