"The Mortal Instruments series is a story world I love to live in. Beautiful." (Stephanie Meyer)
"The story's sensual flavor comes from the wealth of detail: demons with facial piercings, diners serving locusts and honey, pretty gay warlocks, and cameo appearances from other urban fantasies' characters....Lush and fun." (Kirkus Review)

At the top
Watched the film first but must say audible book was far better
No the whole story was great could not wait for the next book
"good story but tricky to follow on audio book"
This is undoubtedly a good book, but its also a complicated and lenghty one. I found myself having to relisten to segments to try and figure out what was going on. It would in this instance have been better to have the book to flick through to re-read crucial passages. It is enjoyable, and will appeal to twilight fans and YA market.
"Could've been a good story."
Probably not, some aspects of the story were very frustrating and predictable.
* SPOILERS * I wouldn't have made them kiss, the story was quite enjoyable until they brought in incest.
Anybody else, very frustrating voice.
"Just another YA novel series"
I have read a lot of YA by now and I can't say I am particularly keen to read the rest in this series. I only really decided to listen to it as I wanted to see the film and prefer to read a book before seeing the adaptation. The premise of demon hunting was fine but the love interest story is very odd and so predictable. Girl doesn't like boy, girl eventually likes boy felt a bit old even if the twist made it different yet plain odd.
Not a terrible book and I listened to it quite quickly as its an easy listen but nothing to hook me to keep reading the series. You just know the twist isn't really the twist.
Being drawn into the story and the world of the Shadow Hunter
The vampire hotel
Suspense and curiosity
"can't wait get the next one"
One of the very best. I have listened to harry potter, hunger games, the help, and my brother has bought audiobooks that i need to listen to. I think all of them have been amazing but since I have listened to it recently it is stuck in my mind.
13 treasure series because they follow the same line with fairies and the second sight. I loved both stories but audible doesn't have 13 treasures. Please try get it.
I thought all the scene written were very well done. I liked the scene when they go to Magnus' party and the vampire bit.
You better check your families history.
I loved this story and can't wait to get more credits to buy the next book. I have even started to write a story and one day hope to get it published but since I am 13 thats going to be in a while.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes the young adult sci fi fantasy genera!
I was hooked all the way through the book and didn't want to stop listening! I listen on my way to work and I was hoping for bad traffic so I could continue to listen! I cannot wait to listen to the rest of the series and see what happens to the characters!
I really enjoyed this book up until the horrible twist at the end, I feel like I should have been warned or something. My star rating reflects my view of the book but definitely not my absolute horror at finding out the twist.
But yeah I think I have a morbid curiosity to find out what happens in the next book. But be warned, this book is definitely not the love story any of us would wish on ourselves!
"Based solely on the first half hour..."
...because after that, I was so fed up with it I just gave up. I started reading the book a while back, but never got through it. After the hype that's been around recently, I decided to have a go at the audio book in the hope that I would get through it before real life intervened and I lost track of what was going on. When I first started reading, I was quite enjoying it. The characters were okay, the story was okay, and although I didn't really get the hype it was okay. The audiobook completely changed my mind. The narrator doesn't seem to be enjoying the story at all, which made me tire of it quickly too. Her accent is unpleasant to my ear, and she's lacking in intonation and melody. Until she tries to make the central characters sound like, whiny adolescent brats, which she pulled off flawlessly. They didn't come across that way when I read the book, but I'm not sure I'll be able to hear them any other way now.I'll give it a while for this to fade from my memory, and then I'll try reading the book again. Nothing could tempt me to try the audiobook any further.
Good grief no!
I'm going to go through the whole series the story is easy enough for a light listen and I'm glad the narrator is changed after the first book
Not really...there's better similar stuff.
God no...unless there was a book where ALL the characters are meant to sound like the Fashion Club members from Daria...
