Publisher's summary

Clary Fray just wants her life to go back to normal - but that turns out to be impossible. For one thing, her mother is still in the hospital, in a mysterious coma. For another, she and her brother, Jace, have fallen under a cloud of suspicion now that the Shadowhunter world knows that Valentine is still alive - and that Jace and Clary are his son and daughter. Not to mention that someone in New York is killing Downworlders and draining their blood, creating a climate of suspicion that sends Downworld Manhattan to the brink of civil war.

When the Silent Brothers are murdered and the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Sword of Souls, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor is dispatched from Idris to investigate. She clearly harbors a personal grudge against Jace, and she drives a wedge between him and his adoptive family. When Clary's romance with her best friend, Simon, starts to heat up, Jace feels abandoned. But has he, as the Inquisitor accuses, joined up with his father?

Then Simon is turned into a vampire and kidnapped by Valentine, who intends to sacrifice him as part of a bloody ritual that will make the Mortal Instruments his own forever. Jace knows he needs to save Simon's life, for Clary's sake. But what if he's too late? What if Valentine has already made the Mortal Instruments his own?

This Book Destroyed Me

If you've listened to this book then you know what I'm talking about. Simon's story arch is breaking my heart so deeply and fully. His friendship with Clary is so important to this series. My heart hurts.

Great Series

What made the experience of listening to City of Ashes the most enjoyable?

This is a great series & I read the books first so listening was like revisiting a favorite place

What was one of the most memorable moments of City of Ashes?

Finding out who Jace & Clary are to each other!

What about Natalie Moore’s performance did you like?

She was very easy to understand, however I prefer when they continue using the same narrator for the duration of a series. Cassie Clare's books have all been narrated by different people.

Pretty good!

I enjoyed all of the Mortal Instruments books, while some parts do seem to be a bit over-explained (thoughts of the characters get very detailed & occasionally stray a bit), it is an enjoyable series. I found myself wanting the 4th book......but it looks like I will have to read the 'prequel' coming soon! I read these as I saw the author of TWILIGHT reads Cassandra's books, and that was intriguing enough (as I am always searching for new GOOD content to listen to!). Worth the listen!

I really enjoyed this book. I like it as much as the "Twilight" series. I look forward to the next two.

I am Hooked!

If you enjoyed the first book then you will keep on enjoying. Great for young adults and adults. The book is clean and well written. The story line captivates you and doesn't let you go.

Great series, but suffering through this narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No simply because it drives me insane that the narrator is mispronouncing words and makes no effort for effective accents present in the first book. BUY THE REGULAR BOOK FOR THIS ONE.

How could the performance have been better?

Different narrator. Just really hard to listen to.

Why do you do this to me Cassandra Clare!

Any additional comments?

I'm so in love with this series. A whole lot of cliff hangers at the end of the book so don't read unless you plan on continuing the series.

Much better, I love it

What did you love best about City of Ashes?

I guess the story, I love the characters and the plot.

What other book might you compare City of Ashes to and why?

I guess it's like Harry Potter but instead of wizards it's angels, werewolves, and vampires.

What does Natalie Moore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really like her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I got through it in three weeks.
