Publisher's summary

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams: Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen.…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls - a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just "troubled". Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side - learning to harness their powers, control their magic, and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart. Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear - Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs.…

Honestly a really a good listen

I love how well the story was told and how there was emotion in the voice reading the book instead of just a robotic voice reading it.

Good story, not so good narration.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book wasn't for me but its not a bad story. I love "mutants" but this had werewolves, witches, fairies, shape shifters and the main character can just see ghosts. Not new or exciting. The story is more of a love triangle mystery than thriller or action. Even amongst witches and fairies there were very normal things like divorces, cheating, and hook-ups. The narration was meant to have a "Texan" accent but she comes off more like a southern bell from 1880. The parts that are male sound more like a grandma. All the girls have the same voice except the vampire. Her mom and camp counselor sound the exact same. Also, the writer has some weird obsession with boobs. I don't want to bash the story too much because it was a great mystery. If you like lust, werewolves, vampires, and mysteries then you'll probably love this book. It's not about love its about lust. The main girl is more confused than brave. Overall, I'm not going to continue the series but if you like very juvenile books or are a child then this is a good one.

a real good and kind of wacky listen.

Would you consider the audio edition of Born at Midnight to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print yet to judge.

What did you like best about this story?

I lied how no matter the diffenerence in people in a crunch you could stick it out and over come all.

Have you listened to any of Katie Schorr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I have not but I was really impressed with her

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yea how the councel holiday really put her self out there for the kids with issues.

Any additional comments?

I can not wait to hear or read part 2 now.

It's a tad cliche, but has some interesting points

What did you like best about Born at Midnight? What did you like least?

Overall, I enjoyed this book because the main character wasn't a vampire or werewolf, but rather had a rather unique and interesting special power. However, the book contains some weak writing and the story is a little underdeveloped. You can tell that the author is jumping on the vampire and werewolf bandwagon, because the author goes into few details and explains "you know how vampires are..." Then, halfway through the book something rather over-the-top happens and I still can't wrap my mind around that particular event. However, once you get to know the characters a little better, it's compelling enough to keep you going.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The story took place in Texas and the narrator had a bit of a drawl to her voice. It would have been ok with me, but there were some awkward pauses that didn't seem to fit the character or the rhythm of the book.

Great story but slow narrator

I just wanted to do a quick review on this audiobook specifically...I am familiar with the narrator from another series of books where I thought she did a pretty good job, but I am frustrated with this particular performance on this book here because the narrator reads SO slowly. It is taking me a long time and many tries to be able to get into this book because of this. I mean, really, she is SO slow! I don't like the way it sounds when I set my iPod to replay audiobooks faster but I am seriously considering it for this book. So slow....I hope she picks it up in future books. That's all I wanted to say. Wow is she slow. I own a ton fo audiobooks but I don't think many are this slowly narrated. Is it just me?? I am going to switch to the ebook or print copy. I can read it in probably one-fourth of the time. It drives me crazy. I guess you get the point! Eek. She reads well, just slow! She has a pleasant voice, but is too slow. Slow slow slow.

Good story, difficult to listen too.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book. It wouldn't be the first I would choose, but I wouldn't advise against it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Born at Midnight?

Discovering the love story behind everything.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She interpreted simple sentence structure improperly. Pauses in the wrong places, voice changes that I felt were unnecessary and distracting. I'm not sure if she herself has a southern accent or she was attempting it for the main characters sake, but I would have much prefered a straight read. Some of my issue with how the delivery was made I can see may not be the narrators fault. Part of my annoyance was with "she said", or
"he said", after every spoken line. I may also be in the minority when it comes to different voices, ect. in the delivery. I just want the book read to me with inflection. One person altering their voice, unless they are gifted at that, is just distracting. My imagination will do the rest, just as it would if I were reading it myself. I also wondered if the narrator had pre-read the book. You know, practiced. For the flow to have been as bad as it was at times it made me think she hadn't. I'm not sure what protocol is followed by the narrators, but practicing doesn't seem like a bad idea. We are paying for these audio's after all.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

I love how, no matter how many times I read this book, it still gets me to laugh and cry like I reading it for the first time.
