Publisher's summary

Life as a ship's boy aboard HMS Dolphin is a dream come true for Jacky Faber. Gone are the days of scavenging for food and fighting for survival on the streets of 18th-century London. Instead, Jacky is becoming a skilled and respected sailor as the crew pursues pirates on the high seas. There's only one problem: Jacky is a girl. And she will have to use every bit of her spirit, wit, and courage to keep the crew from discovering her secret. This could be the adventure of her life...if only she doesn't get caught.
Listen to the sequel, Curse of the Blue Tattoo.

Absolutely hooked!

Bloody Jack has sold me forever on the character of Jacky Faber and her adventures. I have been telling whoever will listen to me about the high quality of storytelling, characterization, and exciting plot lines in this entire series.

You'd think that after a few dozen plot twists and crazy "could never happen to one person" story lines that you'd grow weary of Jacky's fortune. But no, you are hanging on every word waiting to see how she could possibly get out of each scrape and corner. What will happen next? Will she be caught? I finished this book in record time and immediately purchased the next three the same day.

As for L.A. Meyer, I cannot praise him enough for his use of facts, illustrative descriptions (especially of maritime life, war, and sailing) historical settings, literary allusions, and plain-old white-knuckle adventure. I want more!

Katherine Kellgren is possibly the best narrator I've yet listened to, and I applaud her theatrical performance. Her emotional depth, fabulous accents, and spot-on rhythm made this more of a movie in my mind than anything I have yet experienced from Audible. I am very likely to listen to books because of her reading alone.

If you love a fun read, this is the series for you!

Amazing narration!

Loved this adorable story. The Narration is just wonderful as well. Katherine Kellgren really made Jack come alive - what a wonderful character. I believe the book is under the Young Adult category, maybe even younger and there are a few subjects within the book that might raise some questions that may be hard to answer. Especially for young children.

Great YA book

A lot of fun to listen too! The story is interesting from beginning to end. Starting as an orphan then she leaves her "street friends" to become a young assistant on a pirate hunting ship. The entire book focuses on the interplay between young friendships. The end did not disappoint me, I am anxious to listen to Jacky's next adventures.

The narrator was amazing! The cockney accent was sometimes hard to catch but that made it even more interesting to listen to.

Engaging story & characters, fabulous narration

Give a listen if you are a fan of ANY of the following:
- Lively historical fiction
- Colorful yet realistic characters
- Impressive voice acting
- Anything nautical

Think Master and Commander or Horatio Hornblower, except with a young spunky girl as the main character. A delight for boys and girls, adults and children (though I would caution, the series is pretty solidly tween and up).
