In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires...their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House - Michael, Eve, Shane, and Claire - to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever. Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance, and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet.

I have been in love with this story, since the very beginning! I love how the story plot is constantly twisting, and how it is so in depth with so many characters, not just 2 or 3 like in a lot of other stories. It definitely is not anything like anything else I have ever read before, and I will always hold it as a cherished part of my book collection!
I have not finished Black Dawn yet, so I cannot say. But I did read the teaser on Rachel's web site, and the special fan club extras, and I am definitely itching to continue on. Can't wait!
I am not a fan of Angela Dawe reading this book. She makes it sound like a completely different story, because her voice is a LOT deeper than Cynthia Holloway's. Plus, after already listening to 11 books with Cynthia's voice, you kind of have a mindset of each character's voice, and it's pretty easy to imagine it in your head. It's like, watching a tv show for 5 seasons, then they replace the main character's actor for the 6th season. It's not the same, and not nearly as good.
If it became a movie, I would most definitely go see it!
If you are not a die hard Morganville Vampires (audiobook) fan, you might not like this at all. I would say check your local library for the paperback or CD, before purchasing it permanently.
OMG the new narrator sucks!! She draws out words that doesn't need to be. She pronounces the names funny. I think its because she is trying to hide her accent. After 12 books with the same narrator how dare Tantor change it up. I would have rather they waited until Cynthia was available to do the Audio-book. This is such a shame and a wasted $20. Yup I didn't use a credit!!
Paranormal-urban fantasy book lover!
This is another great story by Rachel Caine, but this narrator puts NO personality into the characters. It's like listening to a monotone monologue. Even during the exciting parts the story seems dull due to her lack of (insert adjective's here) performance. I understand that it is difficult to keep one narrator for an entire series but when you change narrators at least have them listen to the other books so she gets an idea of what the characters personalities are like. Shane's snarky comments sound like a plain statement and not a smart elic remark. Oh Goodness I hope she does better with the next book. Or better yet, bring back Cynthia Holloway! I think I am just going to read the next book if they keep this narrator. I don't know how they get the job of narrating in the first place when every characters voice sounds the same, dull and mundane. Stepping off my soapbox now.
She put no personality into the characters. It's like she didn't listen to the other books to Guide her on what the characters personalities are. She is very dull and monotone. The other books I zipped through and did not want to stop listening but this one, I had to make myself listen it was awful!
This narrator sucks! Learn the characters or don't narrate.
It's bad enough when books in a series change narrators (I HATE IT!), but down right pitiful when they don't take the time to research how the previous narrators pronounced names and terminology.
I'm begging publishers to care enough about your customers (the ones that keep you in business) to consider this when making decisions. Keep it simple and keep the same narrator, but if that's out of your control (which getting cheap IS within your control) at least make sure they pronounce the character names the same!
I love Morganville Vampire series and always recommend to my family and friends.
Eve - love her personality.
Horrible narrator. Rachel Caine seriously messed up by not using Cynthia Holloway. I had a difficult time listening to Black Dawn.
Book was fine just disappointed because of narrration.
Have Cynthia Holloway narrate future books!
How do you change narrators this far into a series? Angela Dawe's performance is just dreadful. I had come to love the characters and how they interacted with one another. She even changed the names of characters! Cynthia Hollaway did a much better job. I won't download the next book if Angela Dawe is the narrator. She has ruined this series for me. :(
I like her books. They aren't serious, they're silly and easy reads/listens. I liked the characters.
What happened to Cynthia Holloway?!? This narrator is really bad and talks like Captin Kirk. Will not get the next book if she is reading it. I could have done a better job.
I love the Morganville Vampires series and have all the audio books, so it's a shame the new narrator's voice is so montone. You can't even tell when she switches speaking from one person to another. All the characters voices sound exactly the same. I'm not even halfway through and I'm considering stopping. Her voice is so boring I want to go to sleep. Her voice is so monotone even the characters sound bored. I can't tell if its Michael or Clare thats speaking. Also it's like she is whispering the lines. This is not a soft romance book. There is love but the characters are fighting for their lives, yet there is NO emotion in their voices. Its a shame to do this to such a wonderful series.
I don't give very many bad reviews but Tantor needs to re-record this book with another narrator.
I am very happy with story so far, just in to chapter 4,,, Very unhappy about the narrator change. I am use to the way Cynthia did the voices of the different charactors in the book, and it is hard for me to be undistracted by the new narrator. I am sure she did the best that she could, but she completely change the Queen Vampire's name in her pronunciation of Amelie,, and it is very strange. I find it hard to believe that someone didn't catch it before they reIeased the book. I would, really really, Definitly, be overly greatfull if you would bring Cynthia Holloway back, Please.
I only started listening to the audio of this series two books ago so I'm not a listener who was a dedicated fan of the previous narrator, but I have to agree this new narrator is not a good match for the characters. Her narration of Claire sounds like a dragging, depressed voice almost as if the audio was slowed down. It was grating to listen to after awhile. The new pronunciations didn't bother me. I can't say you might like it if you haven't listen to the other books because I think it would be hard for anyone to listen to this narrator. I haven't finished the book yet because I can only listen to it in small increments.
