Publisher's Summary

Book Two in the House of Night series, this is Buffy meets Gossip Girl. Bolinda is thrilled to have this international best-selling series on its audio list.

Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night. She's come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs-like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend...or two.

Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey's old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves.

Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.

"This is NOT Audible KIDS: still."

There were still some serious issues that I have with the book, and possibly the series. The "This is Audible kids" introduction is inappropriate for such a sexually charged novel, and is geared more to the emotionally advanced young adults. The first issue is that we understand that the character of Damien is gay. I however find it repugnant to make every adjective, or adverb from the word 'gay'. Damien does x like a gay ballerina, or Damien ran into the room like a gay tornado got old really, really fast. I like Damien as a character but the unimaginative writing about Damien does such a well developed character no justice.

Then their is Zoey herself who seems unable to go more than ten steps without soaking her underwear over a new boy. This isn't the fault of Zoey, though I admit to being frustrated that two seconds after her beau was gone she is running overtime at the laundry mat because she is running short on underwear. This reflects poorly on the authors who repetior of story lines seems severely lacking unless someone 9021H0ES their way through the book. If Zoey were a male character, he would be an untrustworthy slime. Unfortunately she is a female character and thus subsequent characteristically appropriate names are very foul, and I wouldn't sully myself with using them. These characters are well developed and you quickly become overly empathetic with them. It just doesn't help the plot, or the characters that Zoey seems unable to control herself for her two already boyfriends. She went from being in high school with her sort of ex-boyfriend who was the dreamboat, to being the boy collector. I seriously hope these two women (authors) can pull away from their own Marry Ellen dirty dreams and get about the business of telling a great story, which this series has every hallmark of being.

I hope the authors of the series can get over these books being their naughty girl play land, and get to the business of good writing.

    "The same awful narrator"

As much as I love this book and the entire series, this narrator makes it difficult to stay immersed in the world of the house of night. Her mispronunciations of such simple words really jerk me right out of the story. That said, if you enjoy audio books because you can "read" even when you can't actually read the book, don't let the narration stop you from buying this and listening. It's an annoying distraction but the story is still totally worth listening to anyway! :)

I love this series! Don't regret the purchase, however, the reader was a little disappointing. Sounded very dull while portraying the characters most of the time.

Favorite series thought the read was great the audio book is even better. the only thing I would suggest is maybe have some background noise or someone to do the male parts.

If you like the series then I don't have to tell you that it is a good book. That being said I like the performance.... To a point. You can tell where she stopped and picked up for the day by the tones on her voice pitching. Twice I had to rewind it because the sudden change made me think it skipped. You can also clearly hear her swallow and chop with slightly dry mouth.

    "Arc-Kansas?"

okay so the story is great. it's clearly well planned with a growing concept, and beautiful plots along the way. The teens feel real, drama and all. that said, the reader DRIVES ME NUTS. I am starting to wonder if she's from the U.S. or not. She pronounced Arkansas as ARC-KANSAS on several occasions. The character is supposed to live in that state, so how does that make sense?

love the series I just think the author takes a little extra time than others to build up her next book/storyline. certain things are talked about for just a bit too long but otherwise i love the series and will be reading them all.

    "Story👍narrator 👎"

Wonderful story. But is the narrator English?? Her pronunciation of words is so off it's weird. A lot of the words that end in "a" have an "r" -if I didn't love the stories I wouldn't keep doing the audio version.
