I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul.
The good news? He didn't get it.
The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school….

Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent "recovering", she's back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.

But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won't keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn't just gambling with her own life….

This Series Keeps Getting Better

I'm not going to say anything on the plot of this story as there's not much to be said that won't spoil the prior books. What I will tell you is that I loved it. The tension was so high and I was fearful for the life of my favorite character (Tod). The story had great romance. Somehow Tod always knows the perfect thing to say and is such a romantic. There were times when my heart melted at the words spoken by Tod.

We also get a lot of Kaylee dealing with inner struggles about her life, death, the way things ended with Nash. She's got a lot of guilt going on and she's trying to make things right but it's not easy for her. I think Vincent does a terrific job of writing Kaylee. She's an honest, caring and smart heroine and somebody that I can relate to. I understand Kaylee's need to take care of her family and friends.

Amanda Ronconi does a great job narrating this series. I highly recommend it because it's fun, exciting, and romantic.

The series gets better with every book

The soul screamer series gets better with each book. Kaylee grows as a person despite not actually being alive anymore. The ending will leave you in tears (if you're a crier). I cannot wait for the seventh and final installment!

Enjoying the series so far.

I have to say that I've become addicted to this series.
I think, as I'm sure others who've been reading the series, have predicted certain relationships and although I was kind of against Kaylee and Todd's relationship at the beginning, it has grown on me and I find they work together well.
It was a bummer for some of the characters and their untimely departure, but am curious as to what's going to happen in the next book.

Entertaining and surprising!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

Kally

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Defintily! Although not as edge of my seat as the ones before; it was def exciting with a few surprises.

Any additional comments?

I always wanted the lead and Todd together, but I found Kally to be strikingly different. I know she has to be different being dead and all, but I thought she was a bit unrelateable. The first 5 books, she was an average teen and I could see myself in her shoes. This book she took on a sorta morbid and I wanna be dead vibe. She is dead, so I do get there has to be a change, but I thought the change was too abrupt. Overall, the book was very entertaining and I enjoyed the surprises. It's def worth your download! The narrator is absolutey wonderful! Go Amanda!

Absolutely Awesome!

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved this book. I was sort of cautious because I didn't think it could get any better than the last one but it so did!! I definitely don't regret my purchase. My friends often think I'm crazy talking about this book like they were real people, but since they are so good it's so hard not to get attached to the characters. I really didn't want to finish it so soon but I just couldn't stop listening to it. The ending to this book was so unexpected and shocking that I CAN'T wait until the next one!!!

Amazing! Each book in series gets better

What made the experience of listening to Before I Wake the most enjoyable?

New characters, how they interacted and the action really never stops.

What other book might you compare Before I Wake to and why?

No book but I'd say Buffy the Vampire slayer TV series were in this book we have other kinds of super naturals and a real "Hell Mouth"

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

I love her narration, she does each character voice very differently and makes it easy to follow. I hope she continues to do series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I LOVED when Sabine gave Sara a reality check. I laughed so hard I had to go back three times to hear what was really being said. I believe that was either chapter 12 or 13. There are several humorous moments, and some really tragic ones. (real heart-breakers) Kaylley really matures and learns how to deal with her new situation. Unlike other stories since book one Kaylley has matured and her character has matured. I really like that. I also like that Sabine who was her nemesis has become her friend. They work together to try to save the humans who don't really know what is going on around them.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next book in this series, even though it's considered, young adult, every one in my family really enjoyed because of the action and realistic way people behave. (this book had the most adult like theme because Kaylley's romantic involvement with Todd. But nothing is ever blatant. So I think it's really good for mature teens. Well worth the credit.
