Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

This was the book of the series in which the most happened. It was fun to listen to and see how the characters evolved and grew. It was the best plot.
His voice. I could just listen to that voice with that accent all day long. It made me feel he was sitting next to me in the car and telling me the story.
I felt it was, I had previously read/listened to Beautiful Creatures and was hooked. I felt that I needed to see where the characters went from the end of BC.
Macon was my favorite. His cadence and drawl were dead on for what I expected when reading book 1.
It was very slow going and didn't pick up until about halfway through. It took a couple tries for me to get into it. I couldn't get past the slow beginning until I got the audiobook so I could listen to it while driving. Then I alternated between reading and listening.
The narrator did a good job giving each charter their own voice. Some of the accents grated on my nerves. My biggest complaint is that he read so slow. It helped when I increased the speed to 1.5, but the reading still didn't sound fluid.
Try the sample before buying so you can check if you can tolerate the narration.
This is the one where Edward breaks up with Bella and runs off. Kidding, but it definately gives you that feeling. This is a good story, lots of fun fantasy. You will definately want to read it if you read the first one!
I really love listening to this series on audio. The voices and sound effects give it such life. This is a great 2nd book. At one point I wanted to toss it out the window but then Ethan saved his girl L. I dont think Ethan life will ever be kickback again.
Ethan of course. I am pulling for him, he is the boyfriend I wanted.
Bring home the fact that Ethan (a boy) is our lead and he has the accenct to make you know he has been raised as a southern gentalman
This is a great 2nd book. At one point I wanted to toss it out the window when L was alone and believing John, but then Ethan saved his girl L. all was good.
I dont think Ethan's life will ever be kickback again.
yes. Liked the story with today's high school kids and the narration was entertaining.
didn't have one.
just an easy read and listen. Got me back to thinking of my high school days and I'm a 52 year old man.

Yes, I love a good love story that breaks boundaries and defies all odds.
The love between Lena and Ethan is strained and they still never give up.
Yes, The only time i put my phone down was when it died but then i got my computer.
Graphic designer and University professor. I love comics and to be always learning something new!
A really big fan of the series, I'd read the first one 3 years agos and saw the movie adaptation recently and wanted to check it out... It was too slow, the kid is STUPID not to notice some things, so much adolescent from the previous version... at least I don't remember him being so DUMB.
Don't make the kid so dumb and predictable...
Passionate, naif, clear.
All the way from the middle to the end it was sloppy...
I likrd the interaction between Lena and Ethan and Ethans reaction to Lena
When Ethan realizes his mother sent the songs
great as always
It was exciting when they were confronted with the blood pack
I found the first ansd second books of this series very good an anxious to start the 3rd
I really liked the book. In fact I am finding I truly am liking YA books much more than traditional fiction.
This book is about a young man named Ethan, and a young woman named Lena.
Lena is from a family of Casters. Ethan is mortal. Together they struggle to enter each others world, but the universe has other plans for them.
The story and the characters are well developed, and it was a pleasure to listen to the audio version of this book.
Off to listen to the second book in the series........
