Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

I really liked the book. In fact I am finding I truly am liking YA books much more than traditional fiction.
This book is about a young man named Ethan, and a young woman named Lena.
Lena is from a family of Casters. Ethan is mortal. Together they struggle to enter each others world, but the universe has other plans for them.
The story and the characters are well developed, and it was a pleasure to listen to the audio version of this book.
Off to listen to the second book in the series........
Kevin you gave an awesome performance narrating and the sound effects made this one of the best books I've listen to ever on audible. But I beg you not to see the movie because you will come out of it so disappointed, the movie butchered the book and did not give it justice at all. I'm just about finished with Beautiful Redemption and am trying to get my daughter and my grand girls to listen to this. Looking forward to more books from you both.
Watched movie before I read 1st book, but after hearing the 1st book, I knew I wanted to hear the whole series and know what happened to Ethan and Lena. I enjoyed this one as much as the 1st and liked some of the twists that this book presented. Definitely worth a listen.
Enjoyable story. Found myself looking forward to the others in the series
Kevin Collins has a wonderful sense of the characters and manages to capture their personalities with ease.
I would recommend this story because I think it is a good story, fun! Reminds me of a Harry Potter book, which are also great stories!
I liked the variety of characters. There were a few new characters in this story, I really liked that. I like how it ended, was sorta unexpected.
I guess the main character is my favorite, Ethan. But I do like several other characters. I really liked the new keeper in training character.
Yes, I liked the story. Liked that it was male main character.
I Liked the fact that there was music and actual sounds. Made listening more interesting.
Again, liked the story. I have listened to the first 2 books. About to listen to the third.
This book would be great for someone who like to be bored into sleep.
The first book was entertaining but the second book started so slow. The challenge to the relationship wasn't very compelling. Snore.
No. At times I couldn't tell the difference.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
Yes, and the 1st one...great stories...kept me interested all the way though!
He is great, he reads with full emotion and heart...
In darkness there is always light!
This book was so wonderful, just as good as the 1st....and I will be reading the rest of this series, and seeing the movie!
I loved the first book, but this one is not good. I'm 3/4 into it and I don't care how it ends (not a good sign). I probably will not listen/read to the rest of the series.
I devoured all he books in this series in a fairly short amount of time. I enjoyed the story and the narrator. If you liked the first book you will like this one.
