Publisher's summary

The Newbery Award winner, based on a true story!

Captured by slave traders when only 15, At-mun never forgot his roots as a prince. Nor did he ever lose his princely dignity and the courage to hold his head high. Sold at auction in America and haunted by the memory of his young sister left behind in Africa, At-mun, now Amos, began his long march to freedom. He dreamed of being free and of buying the freedom of his closest friends.

By the time he was 60 years old, Amos Fortune began to see those dreams come true. “It does a man no good to be free until he learns how to live,” he often said, and he left a legacy of freedom for himself and others that has immortalized his touching story for us all. Recommended for Grades 3 and up.

A True Christian Story!

Impressed by the story line. Waiting for God's answers before you act shows true devotion to God! A lesson more people should follow.

Narrator was consistent on his voice tones for each character.

Everyone should read this inspiring book!

What peace, courage, truth to self and others Amos exhibited throughout his life! He loved others not as he was loved, but as he knew all should be loved!

A Great Book For Children! (An 11yr-old's review)

Amos Fortune: Free Man, is a pretty good book, but though I've read better books and heard better recordings, this book is highly recommended to children! One thing I like about it, is that Ray Childs' voice is that it is somewhat African and old, and Amos is African and most of the time, Amos is old, too! Great book!

An amazing story!

I had to read this for school, and just let me say it was one of the BEST BOOLS I HABE EVER READ! I love the characters and that he finds Jesus and follows him all his life. There are also some funny parts! I have to write a book report on this book. The report will be enjoyable because I liked the book. Overall, it was amazing!

Touching and inspiring story of an incredible man

My kids and I listened to this book as part of our homeschool curriculum and we all thoroughly enjoyed every second. Amos Fortune was such an inspiring man. I pray everyday to have such enduring patience and kindness as that selfless man.
