Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

Good book, can't get past the narration

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Way too monotone. I was disappointed by the narration of Insurgent and was hopeful that 2 narrators would make Allegiant better. The way the book is read seems more solemn & depressing than the characters come across on paper.

disappointing and not worth finishing the series

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this to a friend because the story is at best a poor replica of Hunger games

Has Allegiant turned you off from other books in this genre?

I wouldn't let one series turn me away from any genre

What does Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

absolutely nothing

Did Allegiant inspire you to do anything?

regret paying for the whole series

Allegiant *Spoiler*

Would you consider the audio edition of Allegiant to be better than the print version?

I really like this trilogy. However, I did not like the ending of Allegiant. After all that Tris and 4 went through, I thought there would be a romantic ending. It is really not what I expected. I probably won't go to this movie if it comes out.

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford – was your favorite?

I enjoyed both characters equally.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The end made me sad. I was not happy with the ending.

Lackluster finish to the series.

I don't know why the author chose to change the whole style of the book. It switches perspective between Tris's and Four each chapter. Storyline is pretty thin and there are a lot of new characters that aren't developed enough to make you care about them. I enjoyed the first 2 in the series but I feel like there was potential to do much more with this series

Sad

I feel sympathy for Tobias for losing the girl he loved and having to move on without her.

Nice wrap

Spoiler - This story was a nice tidy wrap up of the series. Don't expect a "Happily ever after."
