Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

a good book . no just for teens.

i liked this book more than i expected to; the whole series, really. roth has a very direct style of writing, no fluff. but very easy to listen to and get (and stay) interested in. the end to the series was not what i was expecting and honestly left me extremely sad. i like books that are escapes and this certainly was. but i also like them to include the happy endings we often lack in real life; thelis did not offer that. i will befinetly recommend reading this book to anyone not just teens and younge adults. but it left me very sad at the ending. so much so that i dont think i will ever listen to it again.

NO!!!

What did you like best about this story?

I just can't right now. I am so sad. I knew it would happen like that too. It was just so her. It was just so him. I can't talk about it yet. Maybe one day.

Really good listen!

Sucked me in and didn't let go. The kind of series that makes the world around you fade away.

Ending sucked

Hated how she ended a great series. Makes me wish that only two books were written. This book was nothing like the first two and just made me sad to have read it.

Interesting and sad

What did you love best about Allegiant?

They finally start to learn the truth about there lives, and how society can be so arrogant and blind to what is right and wrong morally. She also shows that people become who they are from all different ways, family, friends, experience's. Learning the truth does make someone change overnight, or strip you of all of what you have learned and lived. Our choices and the experiences define who we are.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Allegiant?

How they got the serum needed to make the major change.

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford – was your favorite?

( I never understand this question) clearly it is the MAIN character. If it was not why am I listening to this book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I read several reviews from other people, they were very negative, and honestly made me hesitant to listen to the last book. I'm glad I did. While it was sad, it was very good and I guess I liked that the writer did something most other's don't. How she ended the book with the people that died, is not that common. I can't say more without telling what happens.

Any additional comments?

There was a lot of negativity on how she should or could have gone with this book. I believe that for her to end it on 3 books, she made what happens and how fast and or what falls out more believable. You can't change the world in a day. I think a lot of readers expected that to happen. Everything takes time, and she clearly shows that in this book.

Interesting twist.

I wasn't sure I could finish this one being a happy ending person. I liked the twist of the outside world and how they overcame it. Wish more characters made it to live though.

Really after all that.. That's how it ends

Where does Allegiant rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'm like everyone else saying that this is by far not my favorite at all.

Would you recommend Allegiant to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes I guess, but that's just to finish the series.

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford – was your favorite?

I've heard Emma Galvin do Tobias, but was happy that Aaron Standford took over. He did a very good job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

One choice can change everything.

Any additional comments?

Just totally unhappy with the ending. It could have been so much better.

I almost didn't purchase this! So glad I did...

After reading the atrocious reviews of the third book in this series I almost didn't purchase it. However, I am so glad I did. I don't usually write reviews but after reading and NOT hating this book I have to say something to offset the horrible reviews.
Yes, there are a few disappointing plot twists but such is life. If you are looking for a perfectly happy ending you won't find it here. However, I do believe the story wraps up nicely. I won't go into detail because another reviewer ruined a surprising moment for me by mentioning it in the review.
Anyway, if you liked the first two you might as well go ahead. You've made it this far.
Like me, you might be surprised. :)
