Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

Really solid ending to the Divergent Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you enjoyed the previous 2 volumes (and you should have), then this would provide closure to the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Up until this volume, Tris was my favorite, but Veronica Roth provides a welcome distraction with the introduction of Tobias's POV.

What does Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have seen the movies, so Emma and Aaron actually sound similar to the movie characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

As we know there are films, and MY personal tag line would be...."A new beginning, for what has already ended".

unpredictable Make you want to Live

Would you consider the audio edition of Allegiant to be better than the print version?

yes it was well done

What did you like best about this story?

the ending made me angry at first, then oddly content and happy.

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford – was your favorite?

both

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no not really but I would be disapoited if I did

Any additional comments?

I think a lot of people did not like the ending because it did not fit into there predictions of the story well I think that was the reason I like it so much. I think this book would be better suited in a country that was not force feed fairy tail endings.

Loved it but would have prefered a happy ending

First, I liked having both Tris and Tobias' viewpoint on this story. it made a lot of sense and I read somewhere that Veronica tried to write it just as Tris but it wasn't flowing. I really enjoyed that part. I do think there could have been a happy ending if only for Four's sake. He deserved to be happy and although he's content it isn't the same. I feel bad for him and it lingered for days after finishing the series, I had to read something I've read a million times with a good ending to shake it. The performances were very good and would definitely recommend this series with the warning that it is sad and even though I was prepared and forewarned I still didn't like it. I really wish a different ending had happened.

Far from predictable

I am happy with the way this ended it was far from predictable and more realistic given the context of the book, yes I am sad too don't get me wrong but I'm ok with that.

I enjoyed this book I thought it was a great ending to this series, I also love that the author had the guts to do what she did, Bravo! Because in reality not everyone gets a HEA!

If you loved the first 2 books this one may be hard on you, yes, have tissues ready but I say read this and look honestly at the world they live in and what they’ve been through and realize that this is the most realistic ending to any of the dystopian books I’ve read!

As always Emma Galvin did a great job on the narration and new to me narrator Aaron Stanford was pretty good but I couldn’t help thinking Kirby Heyborne would have done a better job especially with his female voices.

I kind of want to throw up right now.

Would you try another book from Veronica Roth and/or Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ?

Yes, I enjoyed her writing. And the narrators were great!

What could Veronica Roth have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Changed the ending! WTF

Did Allegiant inspire you to do anything?

Write a review, lol. Obviously it's a must read after the first 2, but be prepared to be disappointed.

Where does Allegiant rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was the best, so real still feel the pain after two days of reading it. It's one of those books that makes you feel real.

Which scene was your favorite?

The end, painful yet so full of love.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and if I would of continued, I would of run out of gas and god knows where I would of ended up.

Any additional comments?

could be that it is the last book

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Tobias was not in line with Tris in the narration, it could be that it was new to the story line that some chapters were from Tobais but they didnt seem to match well I thought.

Expected the Worst

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

After reading the reviews I was reluctant to get the next book. Being captivated by the rest of the story, I could not help my urgent desire to keep reading. I now know what all of the fuss was about, but without giving spoilers, it did not ruin the story for me. I think it was a perfect ending, not quite like a fairy tale, but this was no fairy tale story. This series focuses on many truths of the world, and in the end, if it were any different it wouldn't have reflected that same truth. I recommend reading this book with an open mind, if you yourself are reluctant.
