Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

Love the Book, Liked the Recording a Lot

My one and only comment is that I don't like when people that are reading the book try to do voices. I loved the voices of "Tris" and "Tobias." Excellent reading! But,Tris couldn't really sound like a man and Tobias couldn't really sound like a woman. 90% of their "other" voices sounded the same. Even Peter sounded feminine. I'm not a child and I don't like voices for different characters. I did appreciate Tris being female and Tobias being male. I didn't need anything else. Just read it!

Better than the movie

Great book, much better than the movie, really got into the characters and sad that it ended.

Doubt they'll make a movie out of this one....

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If they changed the ending or at least created some drama around what should have been a couple great plot twists.

Any additional comments?

It was almost like they changed the original ending they had planned. I find it hard to believe this was the outcome Roth wrote the first books to lead up to. I agree with everyone else. This book fell apart. The characters we fell in love and hate with in the first two books loose their luster when submerged in a plot I can only describe as lazy. There was so much potential for drama with the characters and where they ended up but instead this book dwells on boring insignificant subplots and characters like Peter and almost skips over the fates of the characters and the moments when friends are lost. Just blah... I hope they change the ending if they do make a movie out of this one.

This didn't compare to the other two books.

Honestly, while I do think that it's worth listening to this last book in the series. I really don't think it even remotely compared to the other two. And, in my opinion the ending could have been better. This didn't hold all that much emotion for me.

Mission: Finish the series

Any additional comments?

I LOVED Divergent. Was ok with Insurgent. But wasn't overwhelmed by Allegiant. I had gotten the physical book, but couldn't get through it. However, since I'd already invested so much in the series, I felt compelled to finish. I have to say, the audio made the story more enjoyable -- I listened to it on long runs and when I would have put the book down because it was a bit snoozy, having it read to me while I pounded the pavement was a good way to close out the series. So mission accomplished, but now on to something a little more engaging.

fitting ending to an awesome series

I will be honest. It did not end the way I was hoping that it would. it actually ended better than I was anticipating. it offers a beautiful message of hope.

Have read this trilogy numerous times!

Great trilogy! If you enjoy a strong female lead (Hunger Games), you will definitely appreciate these books!
