Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

mixed feelings

the spilt chapters helped with keeping up with Four's thoughts and Tris' thoughts but ta Four series already exists for that.

As others have said the book ended rather rushed as if the author was running out of pages.

Concerning the performance, they were phenomenal. Loved both readers voices for Four and Tris, the five star aspect of this book!

Overall though closure was given for almost every character in one way or another. There were a few that we never heard from again which left me a bit wanting but I'll get over it.

Meh

Not as good as the other books. Characters got annoying. Took 2 years of starting and stopping to finally finish.

She broke my heart

Where does Allegiant rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top 15%

What did you like best about this story?

It was a tidy ending. Though the author upset me with her choice of endings.

Which scene was your favorite?

Every time Four realized he needed to trust Tris' judgement.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

N/A A movie is being made and the casting is all off. I don't want to even speculate on what tag line might be used.

Don't judge an entire book by its ending

Where does Allegiant rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

*No Spoilers*For such a young author, Veronica Roth has written a compelling novel filled with philosophically interested ideologies and a captivating storyline. It's certainly not the best novel I've ever listened to, but many of the dystopian ideas she introduced in Divergent and Insurgent are further explored and questioned. It's not surprising Allegiant received such mixed reviews. I myself, hated the ending and felt it was unnecessary and almost out of place. I suppose when you write to young adults, there's an expectation that your book will finish with butterflies and rainbows and everything will be sunshine. Allegiant is not as violent as Divergent, nor is it as dark as a Stephen King novel, but the ending was not a walk in the park. Don't let negative reviews and pained comments stop you from enjoying Allegiant, while it's not masterpiece of century it does have a great story line and worth listening to (especially if you've read the first two novels)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Allegiant?

The ending.

Have you listened to any of Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I really liked their performances.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The truck ride with Four's old friend and Tris, we're his friend gives us a little glimpse of Four's past.

Any additional comments?

The PG-13 make out scenes are really lame. I know this isn't 50 shades of grey but seriously CPR dummies get more action than them.

Good story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes,

Any additional comments?

The story line was great but I didn't like the two different voices, I understand why they did it but it was a little distracting after a while.

Entertaining yes, fulfilling not really

Narration was good, not incredible but good. The plot felt rushed and underdeveloped at the end. Would I read another book from V Roth probably not.
