Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

intense and daring

Not many authors have that ability to instill emotion and moments ,where we can feel as if we were really there, Vernonica Roth certainly does.

Like, hours of *whatever*

Would you try another book from Veronica Roth and/or Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ?

possibly

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the attempt to deal with big, and actually very relevant themes of biological determinism, freewill, etc. I thought it was far more optimistic that The Hunger Games, the obvious comparison.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration matched only too well. It was like felt like riding around in a truck filled with surly teens for hours.

Any additional comments?

The adolescent sarcasm wore very thin and became irritating after awhile as did the all the scenes in which Tobias and Tris making out by stroking each other's backs (???). Maybe better to skip the adolescent sex scenes all together.

Disappointing Ending

The series was top notch in all categories but unfortunately the ending did not live up to the rest of the book. Will not specify because I don't want to spoil it for those who want to finish the series. I have found in these types of series that as exciting as the authors tend to make the plot and characters they frequently don't continue that challenge to the end. Really too bad because this series had such potential and deserved more effort in it's finish.

Why Did I Commit Again?!

What did you like best about Allegiant? What did you like least?

The first 3/4 of the book fell in line with the rest of the great triology. The last 1/4 was torturous to even finish and made me regret reading the series at all!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The complex relationships were interesting. Much of it became boring in this last book though.

Did Allegiant inspire you to do anything?

Not re-read this series!

Any additional comments?

I don't know what happened to this series, as it was so strong until this last book. Sigh.

I loved listening to this book! This box which is between perspectives of Tris and Four in the voice actors make it easy to understand and comprehend! Veronica Roth is a great writer!

WHY!!!!!!

I love this series and this was a good book...But did it have to end like that? I am ok with the ending only because it was different.
