Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

Perfect Closing Book

What made the experience of listening to Allegiant the most enjoyable?

I do not understand the bad reviews. The book did not feel rushed. It felt like the perfect ending. I am glad that I did not listen to the bad reviews of others. It ended in a way that made the most sense. Sad but the realest and truest.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Allegiant?

For me, it was when Tobias found out the truth about himself.

What does Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford had perfect voices. Really brought the story to life. Aaron changed his voice in a more dramatic way. I really liked that.

An amazing series

I thought both of the narrators were perfectly cast for these rolls. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Best Book of the Series...

My expectations were very high after the first two books, but This book surpassed them. The continued development of the plot was impressive without many slow parts. Roth does an extraordinary job at giving just the right amount of detail while providing closure to each part of her story.

As with all of the books, the ending leaves you excited for the next one.

I highly recommend this book to any fan with the following interests: futuristic sci-fi, adventure, drama, strategy, good vs. evil, morality lessons, tragedy, or just plainly a good story.

As much as I enjoyed these books, I am not as needy for a fourth as I have been on completion of the other books. On the other hand, I will likely get the fourth audio book since I have enjoyed the writing style of Ross.

It could have ended better

The author had me attached all the way through until the book began to wrap up. I think it could of had a better ending and I totally hated the change up of narrators. If they were going to go that they should of kept Four's voice as a man through all the books. It really messed me up.

The ending

Some of us don't enjoy sadness as entertainment. If I wanted to be sad, I could have watched the news. Great story, and well written, but unlike Harry Potter, or The Lord of the Rings, I am depressed now and sad and certainly don't want to read it again. My grand daughter who loved the first two, will probably never read this one, although I told it was a good story, she knows how it ends. As an author, you didn't do yourself any favors.

Such a wonderful story and fantastic performers

I think this is the best of the three books in the Divergent series. Four goes through such character development that it's hard to remember him as he is in Divergent book 1. I have now listened several times over and it's great each time.
