Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

Just not up to par

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. The only reason I listened to this one is because I already listened to the previous two. The story lacked depth.

Would you ever listen to anything by Veronica Roth again?

Probably not.

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford – was your favorite?

I don't have a favorite.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I initially thought so, but this being the third in the series, I will not go see any of the movies.

Any additional comments?

The characters lacked depth and the storyline was too simplistic. As a teenager I read Michael Crichton books, teenagers of today can handle more depth. Perhaps the author doesn't have the depth required as an individual.

Excellent but Heartbreaking

The performance by both was fabulous; Emma Galvin has brought Tris to life in all three books and Aaron Stanford was a wonderful addition. Beautifully written with the perfect amount of description in the scenes. The only reason I gave this a 4 was because I'm salty about the fact that I spent the last hour and half of the book crying because it was just so sad. But that's what makes it somewhat realistic.

amazing!

This series has gripped me in a way that few others can. It is about real love and real courage. The performers are great too, they definitely sound like I think Tris and Four should sound.

I feel sad that it's over

What made the experience of listening to Allegiant the most enjoyable?

The story was great, and the narration was enjoyable. I enjoyed all aspects of the trilogy and feel sad that there's not a 4th book to read in this series.

I CAN'T: SPOILERS AHEAD

I don't really know where to begin. Lets start by saying Trice never really pulled me in as a reader. I was never like so involved I would say but after all the suffering all the drama, all the shooting and the attacks. YOU WOULD THINK, that she would have a happy ending. Like literally all the people you hate end up in one way getting off and all the key players ( if still alive! ) kind of get an okay ending? The ending was just resolved and then the world hit RESET? Four???? He is just alone on the other side of the city in a dark space? At least Roth didn't match him with Christina because I think that would have just really plunged the knife down.
