Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - Speculative fiction has emerged as the most popular subgenre of YA literature in the last decade or so, helping to patently defeat the dire predictions that kids these days just wouldn't care about books. Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy has become an almost iconic addition to this cannon. Insurgent, Book Two in the series, ended with an M. Night Shyamalan-worthy twist that has kept me and the other fans here at Audible biting our nails - making the arrival of Allegiant all the more exciting. Luckily, Emma Galvin, probably the best YA voice talent going today, returns to narrate along with a surprise male co-narrator chosen by a fan-vote. I hate to state the obvious but if you were sucked in by The Hunger Games series (and come on you know you were) then you need to check out Divergent. And to top things off, it's about to be a blockbuster movie. Emily, Audible Editor

Disappointing ending but fantastic until then!

Allegiance, just like the first two books, grabs your attention with heroism, action and a wonderful mix of intertwined chaos between characters. The ending however made you feel like it ended to abruptly and didn't satisfy like the rest of the book.

Surprising close to a great series.

The chapters from 4's POV are very illuminating. Surprising twists to the story. Performed well.

Great series finale

This final book in the series wraps everything up very well. It's very exciting, upsetting, and overall enjoyable. It's hard to say goodby to characters that you have become so attached to, but I guess all things must come to an end. And the narration was great.

More than I bargained for...

What did you like best about this story?

Book 3 goes much deeper into a world I thought I understood. Roth reveals a great truth about life; that despite all that we may know, our external and internal worlds are so much deeper and complex than we can imagine.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The story is really easy to get pulled into and there were times when I would find myself listening for hours at a time - then there are those chapters that demanded I stop and digest all that was happening.

Any additional comments?

Don't be put off by some of the negative reviews. Roth has delivered a cohesive and well written trilogy, in which she bravely allows her characters to develop and realize their full potential.

Not the ending I wanted 😢

All I could do was cry for the last few chapters!!! While a good story, it's one that just kills me to listen to.

Hey Roth... I think you need a do over ...

Would you try another book from Veronica Roth and/or Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ?

Roth ... probably not, the voice actors yes

Would you ever listen to anything by Veronica Roth again?

again probably not

Have you listened to any of Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Emma Galvin yes, Aaron Stanford I have not come across yet

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe, since Hollywood tends to change the story so much they might get it right

Any additional comments?

This book was a complete let down, which is really sad considering how great the first 2 were I cannot understand why an author would commit career suicide by ruining your best story ... I won't bother with any of her other books if there even are any... I don't know I haven't bothered to look
