This is NOT appropriate for children - even teens

I downloaded this book to listen to with my teenage daughter. We listened to about 15 minutes before I had to stop it. In that time there were at least 10 instances of foul language and 2 very crude references to sex. I don't know who decided this was a teen book but my daughter certainly will not listen to or read this book.

Decent book, her others are better

This book does read like a cleaner Jackie Collins - which I'm fine with - but others might not be so into it. It is kind of a saga and you want to take Sienna and shake her for her selfishness and stupidity.

What I REALLY don't like about this book, is the production and narrator. The long awkward pauses are bad, but you can hear every breath and EVERY swallow of the reader. It's like nails on a chalk board, every three words she takes this big, loud swallows and when she is ready, her mouth sounds sticky. I can't tell if she needs a drink of water, has a jolly rancher in her mouth or has a very "wet" sounding mouth. It creeps me out and made this otherwise decent book, very annoying.

The quality is just not here for such a long read.

I loved it

I really enjoyed all the characters in the book and think that it deserves more stars!!!! I wouldn't listen to it with my children either but it made "my" day!

Couldn't stop listening to it

I lost sleep because I couldn't stop listening to Adored. The characters are all well developed and you really get involved in all the dysfunctional hollywood drama. There are characters you'll hate and others you'll really root for. The main character Sienna is a mixed bag. She's selfish and vulnerable. You get to know her family and understand her motivations. If you want to lose yourself in a glitz and glamor story spanning 3 generations of a mega Hollywood family then read this. I read the reviews about the slurping and was a little concerned. While there is a little bit of saliva noise, it really wasn't enough to deter me from finishing this book. In fact, other than the occasional slurp - ha ha ha - i think the narrator did a great job going back and forth between all the characters.

Why?!

The story is a little risque. Something for older teens or adults. Well written. If only the narrator wasn't chewing gum the whole dang time. And some of her choice character voices do not suit the characters. I would suggest reading it rather than listening to it. Unless you can stand chewing and swallowing noises the whole time. Why did she have to narrate it and chew gum at the same time? Why??!!!

Narrator sucks!!!

The book is great and entertaining. But I'd rather read it than listen to the narrator's disgusting saliva gulping sounds... How is it possible?

A guilty pleasure!

Great listen, you really get to know and either love or hate the characters. It's a long spanning story that makes you feel as though you know this family yourself. It was a pleasure to listen to.

Good listen. Narrator is unfairly bashed

Tilly's Sindey Sheldon series are always better than her stand alone books but this is definitely worth a listen. I was definitely engaged the whole time. Also, the narrator in my opinion was just fine and got unfair reviews saying she wasn't. She did accents and distinct voices the way a good narrator would. The audio book overall was classic Tilly.

Narrator's Defense

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes unlike other (audio)books that i read except Sidneys, i love a book where i can relate or understand the characters , not be befalled with why things end the way they did. I certainly like how i can travel their journeys with them. Like Sidneys books, i like a story that contains mini stories that come together to arrange the plot.

What other book might you compare Adored to and why?

They are like Sidneys books, yet less wicked in a sense of sex and violence, but more descriptive which help heighten the emotions or senses of the listener/reader.

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

To be fair to Miss Rosenblat's gulping and slurping, i think this is not entirely her fault, we all do swallow our saliva but in her case she's in front of the mic which makes it more apparent. If you don't do it i presume you're a robot of somekind. I guess the director or the sound editor could do something about it next time. It could really be distracting and prevent the listeners to really focus on the story. But i enormously like Miss Rosenblat's voice and portrayal of the various character voices, their accents, their emotions and all that. I wonder how she does it and not getting confused. I'm your new fan Miss Rosenblat :).
