This audiobook contains:
"Absolutes": Expertly melds science fact with science fiction. The brilliant boy scientist, Krzysztof Steelbridge, is blinded by ambition and ultimately consumed by it.
"Silence is Golden": In the distant future, the universe is controlled by Majority-1. Their rule is supreme. No one dares oppose them, and so it is against all odds that Ev tries to make a stand against them. To do so, however, she must sacrifice everything and everyone she holds dear.
"August Rains": Former teacher and principal John Anderson must face the demons of the past.

Absolutes & Other Stories is an incredibly good story collection from a favorite author. There's a good mix of stories from the more literary (August Rains) to the extremely fun (Silence is Golden) to the pure science fiction (Absolutes).
I've listened to a good many audio books, and this is pretty darn good. The narrator does a good job with the stories, and the author does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life through his words. There's a good enough mix and story types to please just about anybody. Highly recommended, especially if you are looking for something you can listen to during a few hour drive or flight. Also, has good relisten value. I've listened to each of the story multiple times when I was looking for something short to fill in the time between appointments or what not.
Robert Stanek is a terrific author and I truly enjoyed these stories. Each gives you something to think about and ponder over the next time you read or listen. Absolutes would make an excellent movie, so would Silence.
Stanek's Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches books are incredibly good. I wasn't sure what to expect in this story collection but I really enjoyed it and the stories are all entertaining. Definitely recommended.
I recently discovered Robert Stanek and I have been trying to read everything he has written. Undoubtedly, his Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches and In the Service of Dragons are some of his best and best known. But he has so many other books as well. This was one I decided to try and I am glad I did. Absolutes and Other Stories is one of those rare immersive experiences. While I did not like the narration so much, I did love the stories and have since sought out the printed book. These are stories that would work will on the big screen and I hope the author decides one day to expand the stories to full length works.
