"The versatile British actor’s performance of Scrooge as he discovers that his body is left abandoned on a denuded bedstead is as raw and real as when the classic tale was written in the closing weeks of 1843. Dale makes us believe in the Scrooge whose spark has been quenched and carries us along as we watch the various spirits blow the ashes into embers, and the embers into a merry blaze of timeless Christmas cheer." Jim Dale (voice of the Harry Potter books) does a fantastic job with this Holiday classic. His voices for the various characters make this very entertaining to listen to.
Now,if we could only get Harry Potter books on Audible....
I am a big fan of this story. I have a collection of different versions of A Christmas Carol. This is easily the best read version I have come across. Jim Dale is superb.
Jim Dale is amazing - the best reading of A Christmas Carol I have heard. Don't hesitate for a minute. I listened to this one three times in a row.
I know the truly talented voice skills of Jim Dale from the Harry Potter series and to have him put his amazing ability to add unique character voices to the Timeless Family Classic A Christmas Carol made the story worth listening just that much more fun... again and again... a winter classic.
I can envision no better narration of this classic tale. I literally could not stop listening to this outstanding audiobook. I ended up listening to the entire book twice within two weeks of having purchased it.
There are many versions, both audio and video, of Dickens' classic story of redemption. This one is my favorite. Jim Dale brings his extraordinary talents to this timeless story. Check this out and his work on the Harry Potter series as well.
I was looking for an unabridged audio version of "A Christmas Carol", and of the many offered on Audible, I naturally noticed this one because it was read by Jim Dale, who does such a splendid job reading the American audiobooks of the Harry Potter series. I was delighted to discover that it was even better than I had anticipated. Mr. Dale is a marvelous actor and storyteller, and brings this classic to sparkling life with his characterizations and inflections. His reading make poetry of the prose. I cannot imagine anyone topping this particular performance. Another triumph for Jim Dale, one which would make Dickens proud, and a delightful treat for all of us. Thank you Mr. Dale, Listening Library, and Audible!
Best book in the English language. Quite possibly the best narrator, too. If you want or need to examine your soul, and chuckle while doing so, read this one again . . . and again. Skip the film versions.
Being familiar with the story helped in listening to the audio version. It's an intense story, packed with details. I listened with my ten year old and I know she had some trouble following it at times.
As expected Jim Dale was excellent and brings this classic stroy to life in the same way he has done in his other reads. If you have only ever seen the movie version of this tale you are missing out.
