Publisher's summary

Stephen King meets Pretty Little Liars in this pulse-pounding novel from the author of The Merciless.

Just back from rehab, Casey regrets letting her friends Shana, Julie, and Aya talk her into coming to Survive the Night, an all-night, underground rave in a New York City subway tunnel. Surrounded by frightening drugs and menacing strangers, Casey doesn't think Survive the Night could get any worse....

...until she comes across Julie's mutilated body in a dank, black subway tunnel, red-eyed rats nibbling at her fingers. Casey thought she was just off with some guy - no one could hear her getting torn apart over the sound of pulsing music. And by the time they get back to the party, everyone is gone.

Desperate for help, Casey and her friends find themselves running through the putrid subway tunnels, searching for a way out. But every manhole is sealed shut, and every noise echoes eerily in the dark, reminding them they're not alone.

They're being hunted.

Trapped underground with someone - or something - out to get them, Casey can't help but listen to Aya's terrified refrain: "We're all gonna die down here."

The story...meh, but loved the performance.

Sophie Amoss is my favorite narrator so the performance was beyond 5 stars.
However, trying to write a review for this book is confusing because when it was over, I was very confused. The beginning seemed like a different genre than the end, like the author changed her mind midway through. I don't know if this is the norm for all of Danielle Vega's books since this is the first one I have read, but if so, I don't think this is for me. It was okay but weird.

Book started great

This book started off great. Towards the middle I couldn't stop listening but once we found out what was actually "going on" it flopped. It was unrealistic and repetitive. It dragged out so much that wasn't necessary. I just wanted it to be over with. I really struggled to finish this. ugh.

Better than I thought once you actually get into it

So I actually took like a two or three week break after getting about an hour into the story. I then decided to go back in when I was really bored one day and give it another shot. The beginning of it is a little choppy and the girls voice is a little bit hard to get used to but once you actually get into the story you realize that her voice is actually perfect for the character and the storyline is pretty good. it’s a little out there but definitely worth a credit. It’s very descriptive but pretty gory so if you’re not into that, I’d probably not get this book. I could see this being made into a movie.

Page Turner!

Young adult..real in many parts, but it keeps you turning the page. There are a few dull spots in this book, but just around the corner, the movement comes back...double.
**spoiler alert** Near the ending, there is confusion and that takes from the horror & tension of the story [who or what is the monster].
This is a good book when you need a little Halloween, or better yet, during Halloween.

Great book

At first I didn't think I was going to get into this book but as it progressed it got really good. Almost like Stephen King. I could tell the narrator was really getting into it, She did a great job.

On the edge of my seat

Each chapter leaves you more and more on edge. The reader, Sophie Amoss, is so amazing she sets up each chapter with just the sound and strain/ stress/ terror in her voice. Will definitely listen to it again.

My Review Can Be Summed Up in One Sound: Meh.

I will start this review by saying that the synopsis for this book was so intriguing that I bought it right away. I didn't give it a week to think about or anything.... And now, all I'm saying is 'Survive the Night' was meh....

Casey just got out of rehab after she became addicted to painkillers when she had a huge injury during soccer; her knee was destroyed as a huge girl ran into her during a game. The story starts out with Casey's father driving her to Madison's (a former soccer friend) house for a "parent-approved" friend's party. Before they even go inside, Shana, Aya, and Julie come in Shana's beat up car where all of Casey's old friends sit judging.

Shana says that Casey's ex-boyfriend, Sam wants nothing more than to see her again. After going to the concert that Sam plays in, they all decide that they want to go to this epic underground raid called "Survive the Night." After they find the party, they all end up having a bunch of fun doing various things until Casey finds a hand with a onyx ring when she's down a tunnel; the onyx ring is the ring that Julie never takes off.

With Julie dead and the rave cleared out, the group is stuck trying to find a way out, but all the manholes seem to be sealed shut. They start to notice that they are being followed...

I'm going to honest about Danielle Vega's novel. It had all all the things to make it a great book, but it fell flat at the end. In the beginning, it was super boring in the middle and I couldn't wait until the rave started, but it just wouldn't start!

So according to my grade system, I'll be giving this a C-, but I will give Sophie Amoss will get a solid A. She did an amazing job.
