Publisher's summary

Something strange lurks just beyond the woodline

The woods and forests can be a true dichotomy of experiences. For many they offer a peaceful connection to nature, but for some they have been a source of terror. In the shadows of towering trees and hidden in the brush, these unlucky few have encountered creatures or monsters that most think only inhabit our nightmares.

Steve Stockton, a veteran outdoorsman and paranormal researcher, has put together a vast collection of over eighty terrifying, odd and strange encounters. These chilling tales may leave you questioning whether you ever want to journey into the woods again.

Entertaining stories

I'm not sure how terrifying these tales were. It was a mix of paranormal, supernatural and mundane stories. Some of them were a little scary. Some of them were shocking. A few were even amusing. One of my favorites was the "Light in the Coffin". The ending of it was completely unexpected.

Joe Hempel did a tremendous job of reading the stories. I fully intend to listen to this book again.

Always entertaining

Steve Stockton always entertains with stories never heard before. Although he’s not the narrator here, his choice of narrator is superb in that I personally was gripped from beginning to end in one sitting.

Ok read.

It really wasn't the best or most intense stories out there, found some to be really boring, but there are some good ones

Solid listen with a few weaknesses

This is a solid set of quality stories.

However, there are two drawbacks for me:

1. The narrator has a nice voice and good diction. However, his tone is sometimes more ironic and slightly humorous sounding than I would prefer for something that's supposed to sound creepy.

2. Speaking of creepy, I would have split this book into two volumes. One volume of more scary and creepy material and another one of more interesting, "wow that's kind of weird," kind of stories.

Overall though this is a quality piece of work.

Love the author and short stories.

Loved the book and it's author. Have been listening to him for a while. I do wish he had been able to narrate the book. I enjoyed every single story and wish there were more like this. It brings beck old memories. Good for young adult and up. Would like all his books in Audible.

Great Variety

The story’s are very well told, interesting, and the nice thing is you don’t always know what to expect.

Grade school kids in TN with BB guns

Disappointed overall with grade school kid experiences dominating the stories. Steve Stockton doesn’t do the narration, which is another reason I wasn’t happy with it.
