Publisher's summary

Want to get your life dialed in? You're in the right place!

Are you having frequent bouts of anxiety or depression? Do all modern therapeutic methods seem useless? Why not try stoicism? Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy that has been hailed as a savior of humanity. It is a philosophy practiced by ancient Greeks and Romans over 2,000 years back and has not lost its appeal in the present century. Such is its power that it is applicable even in the present day.

Human suffering comes in different forms, and the most dangerous is mental suffering. Stoicism has answers to most of our inner fears and anxieties. It can save us from self-destruction and guide us toward happiness unerringly. Greeks of ancient time suggested that the interpretations and beliefs we have influence our emotions. When we change the inaccurate self-destructive and irrational beliefs, we can be free of emotional sickness. The deep-seated beliefs in us are mostly carried on from our childhoods. Hence they have become habitual.

To get away from the vicious grip of our wrong beliefs, we need a powerful force like stoicism. The general opinion on stoicism that you would have heard so far would not paint a pretty picture for you. And you may read this with disbelief. However, the truth is stoicism has such deep and insightful truths that you will be surprised at how effectively you can set your mind free and attain happiness in your life.

So good, I need it in print version as well

Thanks for the summary. I'm thoroughly inspired. Just long enough to cover the information, but short enough not to lose me.

Stoic Practice

This was a delightfully riveting extrapalation and deltailed explination of the stoic practice. It thoroughly outlined not only what it is but it broke down and reconstructed the history in a systemic, almost melodic, and easily digestable fashion. Highly recommended read for anyone interested in knowing a little more about this philosophy. Looking forward to more of your works.

Sketchy Intro

Covered stoicism piecemeal and a bit haphazardly around the edges, and a bit muddled - it never really nailed it. The narrator had a bizarre quasi-Georgia accent (think a cross between Jimmy Carter and a southern preacher on LSD), but he settle down a bit into it, and you could finally make out the words.

great starting point on the study of stoicism.

Read This book if you are interested in learning or actually practicing stoicism. Although this is by no means comprehensive. the author does point you in a great direction for further study

Stoicism 101

What did you love best about Stoicism: A Friendly Beginners Guide to the Ancient Philosophy of Stoicism?

It's a great introduction to the concept and history of stoicism. The author made a great job on covering all the basics as well the history and roots of the philosophy.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended for anyone looking into a stoicism, it makes for a great introduction before jumping directly into the works of Seneca or Marcus Aurelius.

Dry but thorough review of principles

Limited practical steps. The book is scholarly in nature - a dry lifeless review. There is little passion or practical advice. If your goal is understanding the subject, this book is for you. If your desire is to implement the philosophy in your life and grow, this book will be of little value.

Poorly Narrated

This is difficult to listen to with the narrators voice. By 7 minutes in I was too irritated to continue.
