Don't miss this Complete Series LitRPG Box Set. Action-packed and full of magic and mystery, it's perfect for fans of Arcane, Final Fantasy, and lovers of all things Progression Fantasy!

Ancient Magic brought the world to its knees. Now, Angel is bringing it back.

In the time that passed, society rebuilt, mixing machinery and magic to form something new. Great blimps took to the sky, belching steam and smoke as metal city-states sprouted like weeds below.

Angel, a daring adventurer, scours the desert endlessly in search of ancient magic. When he’s given an offer he can’t refuse, he finds out that he’s not the only one seeking lost knowledge. His opponents wield magic that the world has forgotten, and their methods leave cities razed and the innocent in their wake.

In a race against a group who has lived in the shadows since the Great War, Angel will have to determine just how far he’s willing to go to accomplish his goals.

Lots of Deus ex Machina, and an underexplored world

Overall, this story does nothing wrong, but it doesn’t do much that’s exceptional.

I’ve waited for a steampunk Litrpg, and this story started out great with a slum kid tinkering, but it rapidly becomes a standard escort arc, with the MC basically having no challenges.

There’s a lot of potential with a magic world going through an apocalyptic war, the junker nobility that follows and a quest to heal magic. This story leaves a lot in the authors mind, though I wish the author had left the step by step fight scenes in their head rather that spend so much time on pretty boring fights.

As for the author, he has a great “wise old man telling campfire stories” voice but with how this story is written it feels like a bad con man reading a tale and pulling plot points out of the smoke.

This scratches an itch but I would put it to younger readers

Fun experience with great narration

I loved the old world vs new world magic aspect. I enjoyed the thriller race to the end as well.

A Decent, Enjoyable LitRPG

I enjoyed my time in this world. It had some unique character perspectives that you don't get often. I'm also very keen on the Steampunk world/astethic. So it wasn't to hard for me to get into it at the beginning, but the story is ultimately what kept me in it. As with any series of books there are moments that feel a bit of a slog. However, I get that with some of my all time favorite books. The highs definitely outweigh those moments and I could actually see myself coming back to this story. I also have to admit I saw some of myself in Angel. He has a bit of an.... aversion to people and he was an "unusual hero" and I actually appreciate that.

I gave the story a 4 star, but it was really like a 4.25.

Good, Twisty Fun

This was a very entertaining series with an interesting magic system and well-formed characters. There were enough twists and turns to keep the mystery of the greater story interesting as well as satisfying endings for each book. The characters were enjoyable as well. I appreciated the levity among characters. It’s well worth a read.

Just a few nitpicks:
-The narrator overall does a great job. His voices occasionally merge a bit going from one character to the next which was distracting at times.
-The listing of stats was a bit irritating in the beginning as it was stated several times with few changes. That just might be something that didn’t translate as well in an audio format. I would have appreciated just what changed instead of everything.

Decent

The story was pretty damn good, but the timeline with how quickly relationships formed felt weird. Overall though, I enjoyed and would recommend.

this book is a roller coaster and I love it the magic/ruins are the main focus and yet are almost never feel like the main point cause we care about the characters more
