Publisher's summary

New from million-copy best seller M.R. Forbes.

One man's epic story of loyalty, perseverance, and hope in a galaxy at war.

Alliance Navy Commander Grayson Stone is patrolling a nearby space station, when a mysterious starship appears. It emerges from a storm of fire, its shields impenetrable, its weapons overwhelming, attacking without provocation and annihilating everything in its path.

While his ship is badly damaged in the assault, Grayson manages to survive. Suddenly trapped behind the front line of the invasion and faced with gut-wrenching choices and near-impossible odds, he'll do whatever it takes to escape the grasp of the terrifying new enemy.

Because, if he fails, humankind will fall.

An explosive beginning!

Star Fire is an explosive beginning to what is a great new series by writer M.R. Forbes! The book has been narrated expertly be Jeffrey Kafer. The story keeps you hooked throughout as Grayson Stone does what needs to be done when lesser men would succumb.

Being written in first person tense is interesting to listen to. It works for the story being told and allows us a more in-depth look at the mental state of Grayson and his experiences. The narration gives life to the characters as you would expect from a professional like Jeffrey Kafer and it really helps pull you in. I didn’t want to turn the book off at times because I just wanted to hear what happens next.

I highly recommend it to any and all Sci-Fi fans. I personally can’t wait to get ahold of the next book in the series.

Narrator attacks his listeners.

This is only half a book. Nothing is resolved.
I would like to say I really liked the story but I have only seen half of it.
Having said all of that I am getting the second book but if this turns out to be a serial then book two is as far as will go.RBD

awesome book

this is the second time I've read this book. the second time I got the audio version. the book was amazing and I enjoyed the story very much! I don't usually get the audiobook but I thought I would try it. the narration seemed a little bit forced like the character was mad at all the time kind of threw me off a little.he seem to have the same tone throughout the book.

Average and with cliffhanger

Not too good, nor bad story. The writer how to keep reader's atention. Narrator is doing excellent work as always. The big Con for the book is a cliffhanger at the end

Engrossing

This is a slightly. different version of alien invaders. A spacer who is a.fighter pilot tells the story of events. It starts with a battle of the Alliance versus the Commune. Then an unknown alien race appears and attacks both sets of combatants. Characters die. The spacer is downed. Contact with anyone, Alliance or Commune, is cut off. They need to get off the planet and jump to be able to let someone know that they need to prepare. But how? Definitely a good read/listen, with a great narrator!

My First Rule Was Broken

I did enjoy this book...however...I have a personal rule that the author should not assume a successful series in the first installment. To start a series and leave the first book in a cliff hanger should never happen. This is a personal opinion of mine but the first book in any series should be, for the most part, standalone. Then let the reader decide if it would be worth continuing with future installments. I may...or may not purchase book 2.

As for Jeffrey Kafer's narration...he always gets 5 stars from me.

An Enjoyable Summer Read

I thought the narrator’s performance really brought the book to life and made it a more compelling experience.

While the writing is quite simple it is exactly what I look for when dealing with the drudgery of commuting. It kept me awake but didn’t require a lot of brain power after a long day working.

Picked the first book up on sale and liked it enough to use a credit to get the whole series. Can’t wait to start the 2nd book.

A writer you have to check out

Star Fire is a story that needs to be heard. Forbes delivers a fine sci-fi survival narrative, presented in first person, that paints a picture of a horrible alien first contact. The characters will become endeared to you throughout and you will find yourself pulling hard for their victories.

The presentation put me in mind of Philip K. Dicks style in "Do Androids dream of electric sheep" The narration is fantastic, and there is no filler in the plot used to drag out pages.

Most importantly it left me craving more, to continue the story, to see the characters unfold further and see how it all finally ends. Wonderful work by a fantastic author

Pretty Awful

I guess it was the narration that bothered me so much. Every sentence delivered at a fast pace. This was not really story telling. I didn't really enjoy the story either.
