Publisher's summary

From the best-selling author of Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect, and the preeminent golf psychologist to the game’s top players, comes the defining guide to mastering the enormous challenges of chips, pitches, bunker shots, and putts.

It is no secret that more than two-thirds of the shots a golfer makes are shorts ones: putts, chips, and pitches. Long drives may garner applause, but whether a golfer wants to win the Masters or just five bucks from a friend on Saturday morning, it’s the little shots that make the difference.

In The Unstoppable Golfer, Dr. Bob Rotella takes the same wisdom and experience that have worked for clients like Davis Love III and David Toms to help you master this special art of short shots and avoid all the frustration out of this increasingly challenging element of the game. Requiring extraordinary levels of concentration, the short game is typically a source of fear for amateurs and pros alike. Here Dr. Rotella teaches listeners how to overcome that fear by using their minds to achieve a state of calm in which focus is on one thing alone: the hole. In addition, he explains the science of memory and how knowledge of the brain’s workings—especially those areas that deal with physical tasks—can markedly improve a golf game, particularly when it comes to getting out of a bunker or taking the measure of a long putt.

For casual and dedicated golfers alike, a better short game provides one of the ultimate pleasures of the game—a pleasure they will come to know by training their minds with The Unstoppable Golfer.

Not my favorite

What would have made The Unstoppable Golfer better?

Using appropriate examples and references.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Any of the Zen Golf books.

What didn’t you like about Bob Rotella’s performance?

I am not a fan of his style. In other words, I am not buying what he is selling.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment and anger.

Any additional comments?

To be honest, I only made it through less than 1/4 of this book. He started to lose me when he used for examples, quotes by Madonna, George Lopez and Beyoncé. Seriously. If that is who or what he considers quality individuals to demonstrate an example, then he has nothing to offer me. I finally quit when he went on to defend Bob Knight. Perhaps these folks will be positive influences for you, but I had no interest in hearing more.

Good for first time readers

If this is your first Bob Rotella book I think you will find it informative, motivational and an enjoyable read. I have read 2 or 3 of his previous books and found this one to have the exact same information only with some updated examples and a new title.

If you've read one you have read them all, but for a first timer wanting to improve your mental golf game, I would recommend it.

Must Read for All Golfers

Bob Rotella does an excellent job of explaining how to get out of you way to play your best golf. His antidotes are informative and amusing. He is a world class instructor. Any golfers lacking confidence should read this book. Thank you for sharing Bob.

Good practical advice on the mind part of the game.

Waaaay too much name droping for my taste. Would have enjoyed it more if he’d stuck with the psychology and not how he helped a top golfer the night before he won some major.

My game

I’m an example of coming to the game late, focusing on the mechanics and not giving any time to the psychology of the sport. For the last month my scores have improved and my satisfaction improved also. For my playing buddies they notice I’m winning more side games. This book has more than paid for itself. You’ve got nothing to lose and more to gain by reading this book.

excellent book for the aspiring golfer

I loved this book. I first read, putting out of your mind and then this. I will say the wisdom gained really helped my game. I went from normally scoring in the low 80s to mid 70s. Actually, the first two rounds after reading/listening to these books were a 77 and a 75. two records back to back all by remembering to be confident in my ability and slamming the door on the negative thoughts that tend to creep up during a round. Highly Recommend!
