Publisher's summary

New York Daily News reporter Madden and Klein, of the Newark Star-Ledger, who have covered the Yankees for years, here join forces on a history that may send fans to their handkerchiefs and opponents into laughter. The authors chiefly discuss the period 1977 to 1989, when principal team owner George Steinbrenner converted a stable, conservative, successful franchise into a club characterized by "chaos, confusion, and craziness'' to the point that some top players refuse to sign with the team. Control of the Yankees, argue Madden and Klein, has been ruled by the whims of a tyrant; as a result, the era they survey has seen 18 managers, 11 presidents, 10 PR agents and innumerable here-today, gone-tomorrow players.

Amazing History during the Lean Years of NYY.

The Book, although originally written during the temoltuious times of the organization, was thankfully updated in 2012, albeit a couple of years after the greatest owner passed away at the ripe [young] age of 80.

I've read several different books about the Yankees and Steinbrenner before and this book, even though it was slightly outdated, it essentially served it point.

The BOOK was amazing and ALL ACES.

The NARATOR [Kyle Munley], was amazing.

If you're a Huge Yankees Fan, especially between the years 1966 and 1992, this book is for you.

GOOD MLB HISTORY AND SOME SETBACKS...

Good job on stories about George Steinbrenner and his New York Yankees. Unfortunately, a few stories, or parts of stories, were retold. The warmth of a fan of Baseball, or one who appreciated MLB and the Yankees, seemed to be lacking as well, and some ordering, appendix-reading was really SLOPPY.

For the book and the so-so narration, this book rates a B-Minus-to-C, at best!

PS: Strongly recommend you offer this work at a greatly-reduced price, or for FREE. It just doesn't measure up to the work by Mr. Madden!

Entertaining look at the Steinbrenner Era

There are plenty of books out there that detail Steinbrenner's time with the New York Yankees and this audiobook falls in the TOP TEN. Most of the information in this book has been told elsewhere, but not usually this well. Madden & Klein have gathered all the stories into this book with some additional detail not found elsewhere. The writing is top-notch and while the narration isn't great, it's good enough that it doesn't distract. Well worth using a credit on this title or spending the dollars if you're out of credits. If you're a baseball fan, this is well worth a listen!

A very good book on the Steinbrenner years.

There were many stories of those crazy years that I had never heard before. It is well written but the narrator sucked. You would think if you are going to read a book you should at least find out how to correctly pronounce the names of the people in the book. For one example he called Rick Cerone as both incorrectly "Ceronee" and correctly as "Cerone" maybe stuff like this don't bother some people but it annoys me because it is not that difficult to find the correct pronunciation.
