Publisher's Summary

Shortlisted for Best New Writer of the Year - The British Sports Book Awards 2012

This book is both a lesson in true grit and determination, but its goal is one that is attainable. Andy isn't a sporting superstar, he holds down a nine-to-five job and all the pressures that go with it; he isn’t blessed with speed and talent; there are no multi-million pound sponsorship deals; yet this remarkable "common man" is inspiring in a way that some of today’s sporting superstars have forgotten how to be. You wouldn’t recognize Andy in the street, yet his story provides valuable lessons to us all: "Never give up" and "Anything is possible".

    Story
"Inspiring story but narrator was awful"
Would you try another book written by Andy Holgate or narrated by Gregory St. John?

Never ever purchase a book narrated by Gregory St John

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Everything is possible if you apply yourself

Would you be willing to try another one of Gregory St. John’s performances?

NO, his pronunciation at times was cringe worthy and detracted from the story

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Feel good story

    Story
"Great book ruined by a guy who can speak English!"
Would you try another book written by Andy Holgate or narrated by Gregory St. John?

Great book ruined by a guy who cannot speak English! the performance of Gregory St. John is THE worst I have had the misfortune to listen to in my several years and 100's of audio books! Andy's story deserved better than this - his journey was inspirational and has reignited my motivation to complete the full distance Ironman! Buy the paperback and give this one a miss... sorry to say

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Gregory St. John?

Anyone who could read and pronounce English... if you are going to read a book to an audience at least know how to pronounce the word triathlon. (Although that said some of the mis-pronouncements were so bad that they had me in stiches… )

Was Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run worth the listening time?

    No

    Story
    "good story but distracting narrator"
Would you listen to Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run again? Why?

no - I might read the book but i found the narrator's pronunciation of place names in particular but also general inflection quite distracting. The use of tri-ath-a-lon and ath-a-lete rather than triathlon and athlete, which must have occurred 500 times in the book grated on me every time they were mentioned.

What did you like best about this story?

Very true to life - being an overweight triathlete myself and going through some of the learnings of falling off my bike because i forgot to unclip my feet, there were some laugh out loud moments for me

How could the performance have been better?

Using someone with a knowledge of the UK would have been helpful - Mor-a-combe rather than Morecambe drove me up the wall

    Story
    "Great Story, "intresting" naration."
What made the experience of listening to Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run the most enjoyable?

This book has great story full of humor. It is slightly spoiled by the narration with a ever changing accent that you can never quite pin Down. Once you get used to unusual pronunciation it becomes a very fun listen full of motivation for wannabe triathletes.

What other book might you compare Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run to, and why?

This book reminded me a lot of Chrissie Wellingtons autobiography. This book however is one of the best "amateur" sports stories I have come accross.
