Publisher's summary

This charming collection of poems and blessings celebrating the Skellig islands will take the listener on a magnificent journey to the mysterious islands that have captivated the hearts and imaginations of pilgrims and visitors throughout the centuries. The beautiful poetry embraces the mystery and history of the ancient Skellig monastery and the monks who built it, the birds and marine life, the flora and fauna, and the powerful moods of the seasons surrounding these stunning islands at Europe’s western edge.

This book is suitable for all ages, from the fun tones of poems such as "Puffling" and "Seal", the adventurous spirit of "Skellig Dive", the historical themes of "Peregrinatio" and "Brotherhood", the moving and spiritual "Hermit’s Prayer", the haunting mood of "Keeper of the Lost", and the meditative "Breathe", as the author gives voice to the islands, capturing the very soul of Skellig.

Beautifully Spiritual

Anne Herridge's lyrical poetry brought me right to Skellig Michael and to the diverse and enchanting native animal life that surrounds it and that is sustained by it.

What was most impressed on me however was, her exquisite depiction of the spiritual importance of this place where the monks in ancient times made their home and worshipped so freely. Throughout this lovely book, narrated by Jack Nolan. in which he set the tone of each poem so well, I felt the awe-inspring presence of this remote island. The spirituality of Skellig Michael has not diminished through the passing of time, but continues on.

Transported by words

Anne Herridge's words enable me to hear, smell, see and feel the Skellig Islands even though my travels have not yet taken me there in person. She uses a fresh variety of styles to describe things seen and unseen, and blends these with history to enable the reader to appreciate the beauty of this special place. The main narrator, Jack, captures the emotions in the words and when I close my eyes, I feel like I am transported there. What a fantastic journey! Thank you, Anne!
