Arthur Koestler hatten die stalinistischen Schauprozesse für diese Mechanismen die Augen geöffnet. Als Konsequenz trat er 1938 aus der Kommunistischen Partei aus. Er floh nach England. Das deutsche Originalmanuskript galt als verloren, bis es 2015 in einer Zürcher Bibliothek wiedergefunden wurde. Der Elsinor Verlag e. K. hat Sonnenfinsternis nach dem deutschen Originalmanuskript in diesem Jahr veröffentlicht.

Arthur Koestler (1905-1983) war ein ungarisch-britischer Schriftsteller und Journalist. Seine bekanntesten Werke sind "Sonnenfinsternis", "Von Heiligen und Automaten", "Der Krötenküsser", "Der dreizehnte Stamm" und "Janus".

Original manuscript version less compelling

Found story less compelling than when I read the original edition years ago. Imprisonment is not just frightening, but also monotonous and soul-destroying. as Koestler knew from personal experience.
