Publisher's summary

When Felicity Comfort meets a mysterious artist by the Serpentine in Hyde Park, she has no idea just how moneyed, miserable, and notorious the gentleman actually is. But even when she discovers the truth about the Earl of Anderly, she cannot help feeling a mysterious urge to seek him out.

Magnus Blackstone, the Earl of Anderly, has retreated from society ever since the horrific incident that destroyed his life five years ago. But when a vivacious young lady and her ill-behaved pug invade his solitude, he realises that life might have more colour to it than a painting from his studio and that what seems like endless ashes can still be exchanged for beauty.

Sketches by the Serpentine is a Regency novel that can be listened to as a standalone but is best enjoyed after listening to A Brother's Wager.

Delightful Regency Romance with 5 Star Audiobook Narration

The audiobook of this novel is exceptionally good, characterized by excellent, distinctly different and appropriate to character enactments. This 2024 book is delightfully reminiscent of the incredibly successful Georgette Heyer and Barbara Cartland. I found the treatment of fashion and the rigorous rules of Regency England applied flawlessly. While there is a mysterious death in the book, its tone is lighter than the style of Wuthering Heights. The series follows a set of siblings, but I started with #2 in the Comfort series and it worked well as a stand alone. A delightful Regency romance, but an exceptionally good professionally performed audiobook. I would tell the author to paint a richer historical fiction setting and to include more geo-political detail to more firmly situate the story and provide an additional level of audience enjoyment.

Narrated beautifully

A fun audio book that was beautifully narrated. Book two of four regarding the Comfort sisters. Felicy, sister #2 is full of life and joy. As she comes into contact with an artist, who is withdrawn and more reclusive, she draws him out to see the colors of the world. The narrator did an excellent job changing to suit each character.
