Publisher's summary

Inspiration for the Netflix Limited Series, Tales of the City

The fifth novel in the beloved Tales of the City series, Armistead Maupin’s best-selling San Francisco saga.

Tranquillity reigns in the ancient redwood forest until a women-only music festival sets up camp downriver from an all-male retreat for the ruling class. Among those entangled in the ensuing mayhem are a lovesick nurseryman, a panic-stricken philanderer, and the world’s most beautiful fat woman.

Significant Others is Armistead Maupin’s cunningly observed meditation on marriage, friendship, and sexual nostalgia.

Life goes on...

I missed some of the stock characters in this one, and the limited role of Mrs. Madrigal. However, the central storyline was just as intriguing as ever, in the continuing story of the lives and loves of Barbary Lane. They even introduced a new character who adds body positivity to the mix, as they make their way through the eighties. Cynthia Nixon is back as the narrator, and she does a beautiful job!

Fun fun fun.

OK. I believe this series is an ode to tge city of San Francisco. and it is its characters and places what makes this book so much fun to read. It makes you relate with some of their stories and trepidations. I truly enjoyed this installment a whole lot. BTW Michael is the best!
