Publisher's summary

A leading voice in public health policy and top environmental medicine scientist reveals the alarming truth about how hormone-disrupting chemicals are affecting our daily lives - and what we can do to protect ourselves and fight back.

Lurking in our homes, hiding in our offices, and polluting the air we breathe is something sinister. Something we’ve turned a blind eye to for far too long. Dr. Leonardo Trasande, a pediatrician, professor, and world-renowned researcher, tells the story of how our everyday surroundings are making us sicker, fatter, and poorer.

Dr. Trasande exposes the chemicals that disrupt our hormonal systems and damage our health in irreparable ways. He tells us where these chemicals hide - in our homes, our schools, at work, in our food, and countless other places we can’t control - as well as the workings of policy that protects the continued use of these chemicals in our lives. Drawing on extensive research and expertise, he outlines dramatic studies and emerging evidence about the rapid increases in neurodevelopmental, metabolic, reproductive, and immunological diseases directly related to the hundreds of thousands of chemicals that we are exposed to every day. Unfortunately, nowhere is safe.

But, thanks to Dr. Trasande’s work on the topic, and his commitment to effecting change, this book can help. Through a blend of narrative, scientific detective work, and concrete information about the connections between chemicals and disease, he reveals what we can do to protect ourselves and our families in the short-term, and how we can help bring the change we deserve.

Everyday Chemical Warfare

Packed full of info on chemicals we run into everyday that can effect our health and bodies dramatically. May seem dry to some, but it’s always good to have more information to make better choices. Great conversation at the end too about the work they do. Check it out.

Relevant and well written

Scientific but written as accessiblely as possible. Very relevant information to anyone! The narration, with all due respect, sometimes sounds off in terms of where the emhasis in the sentence is placed, which is interesting given that the author is the narrator; I got the impression that he didn't understand what he was reading (which is obviously not true). Other than that he's nice to listen to. Overall recommend!

The Must Read Book of 2019 is here early on Audio!

This is the book everyone is going to be talking about in 2019 and beyond. Share with your friends, your family, and anyone who will listen. You will save lives. Dr. Trasande is an expert in the field and in this masterful book delivers a guide to the toxins bombarding our lives in the most unexpected ways. The info in this book is an approachable, easy to understand deep dive into each industry. He goes one step further than most articles on the topic by also providing a HowTo manual as to how to easily implement better choices in your daily life. I just moved apartments and this book changed what furniture I am considering purchasing (would you want a couch that interferes with your endocrine system?).

Powerful and encouraging!

Gaya and Jason Fritz are complete complainer that I am sure they don’t want to recognize its importance. Apart from their grammar - which I am sure I have also texting on my iPhone - leaves much to be desired. Writing a remmondation (the word itself explains- keeping your own shortcomings to yourself- can be powerful both positive and negative. This book has the possibility to help millions of people to make decisions that positively influence their lives and future relatives! I am indebted and so should everyone who reads feel. Thank you so much, Dr. Trasande and I especially appreciated and liked you reading your own book!! ehb

Very hard to follow, did not retain much

This book have have suffered from an audio format, and would have been likely a) easier to read and b) left more of an impression in written form.
As it was, I struggled to get through it, and I've taken next to nothing away. It was very difficult to determine which facts and figures of the many discussed were the most important to remember. The author would generally start with anecdote about a former patient, talk about his and colleagues research, and then talk about how X exposures may have been linked with Y incidence of Z disease in kids of XY age, while other work showed....you get the idea. I'm a scientist, and used to looking over facts and data to determine what I think is the most important. It's was just next to impossible to get that from this audiobook version. I recall listening to one section 4 times, and I still couldn't remember what the main point was, a few minutes later.
