Publisher's summary

"For any girl who has struggled to love herself." (Tammy L. Gray)

Avery Nichols knows how to wear the mask. Perfect student, perfect daughter, and perfect friend. Nobody would ever guess that inside, Avery is a prisoner to her own self-loathing.

Then she meets him...and everything changes.

Handsome, charming, and self-assured, Jake Matthews sweeps Avery off her feet in an effortless fashion. Avery knows Jake is everything she needs and all she has ever wanted.

She would destroy herself to be loved by him...until he walks away.

Broken and lost, Avery meets Parker. His genuine, caring nature reaches past the mask, and the shattered pieces of her heart slowly begin to heal. But just when Avery starts to feel whole again, she faces the impossible truth.

Jake never really left.

Three chapters until Im done

Here I sit with three chapters left... not sure if I can listen to the main character make another mistake. Don’t get me wrong this is a good book, the main character is like that one girl you knew in high-school who just seemed to be without a compass... maybe you wanted to shake her and say “just stop!” She was definitely doing too much!

The chapter names are true to their content... she triumphs and back peddles over and over again! I see some characteristics I have displayed myself in the main character, uncertainty, double mindedness, insecurity and holding on to people and situations - past their expiration date!

Then there is light often found in someone else, they are a life lines that keep us afloat through storms! We love the light but take it for granted as we struggle and that is why Im writing this review with three chapters left! It may take me days or weeks to finish the last three chapters! I thought this girl had learned by now.

But then it hard to see your true worth at times of challenge! Read this book share it with your teen or friend... it is a good read...I want the character to have learned her worth.. we will see😔

My review

I absolutely love books by this author because she tackles tough issues. In this book she touches on eating disorders and the path it can lead you on. I like books that talk about the messy side of our lives and how God helped us through the mess. So many people think Christians lives are ";sunhine & rainbows", so I like Christian books that show we deal with the same issues anyone else does.

I see this book as a cautionary tale for teenage girls/boys. It shows what can happen when you have low self-esteem and how you can end up letting people manipulate/take advantage of you. I really feel that Parker shows Avery Christ's love through his actions. It will make you hurt for Parker but Avery is not fully able to love Parker until she is able to love herself and therefore see the truth of what has been going on.

The narrators voice was a little too "southern" for my liking... especially with the voice of Jake.

loved it

loved the depth of the heroines story, and how she grew from her wrong beliefs about herself and that allowed her to embrace real love.
