Publisher's summary

Stone Barrington must track down an enemy intent on disturbing law and order in the latest action-packed thriller from the number-one New York Times best-selling author.

Upon returning from a dangerous coastal adventure, Stone Barrington is looking forward to some normalcy with the leading lady in his life. But when a grisly crime arrives on his doorstep, along with some suspicious new clients eager for his help, Stone realizes peace and quiet are no longer an option. As it turns out, the mastermind behind the malfeasance rocking New York City and the nation's capital wields a heavy hand of influence. And when Stone is unable to recruit those closest to the case to his side, he is left with few leads and a handful of dead-ends.

But with the help of important people in high places - and the expertise of alluring new friends - Stone is more than ready to rise to the occasion.

Critic reviews

“Woods’s alternate universe—in which the first female U.S. president is succeeded by the second female U.S. president—provides perfect escapist fare.”—Publishers Weekly

“Woods provides a lively romp of a book, but it's built for entertainment, not solving puzzles. Pick up a copy to update your sense of why James Bond was and is adored.”—New York Journal of Books

Does this character ever grow up?

I have been reading this series for years. When I was younger I thought the character interesting and fun, but now he seems irresponsible, immature and emotionally stunted. I always enjoy Mr. Woods’s writing and style but can Stone Barrington wear a condom if we are going to let him be a man whore. This is the 21st Century.

predictable

good background book. his read-aloud stories are interesting enough to entertain, but i can walk away and come back a few minutes later without worrying about missing any key info.

Predictable

Not really as entertaining as his earlier works. The story line is basically repetitive, just add different names. Stone meets girl, has sex with girl, and she moves on. All the while jumping around the globe on his private jet. The stories are becoming more predictable and less actionable. And the politics is getting old.

Another winner by Woods!

For me all his books are so easy to listen to, the plots always flow quickly and seamlessly and I always rush to get back to them. I like that they're uncomplicated as I feel with enough complex stuff during the day in my business. I'm surprised that no one has made a few of the books into movies. I wonder who would play Stone? He always gets into some sticky situations with the ladies too, LOL. Oh well I have to wait til the end of December for the next book in the series...

Please stop the left wing bias and push ! We’ve already stopped listening to one author because of it !!!!!

Huge gap in storyline

I really love the stories about Stone Barington and nearly know them all. In the last years the stories more and more become like elevator music. Somehow entertaining but on a very low level. But in this book Stuart Woods just cuts the Story.
In one moment the Stone, Dino and Viv are in the UK and in the next chapter, without any explanation they are back in New York. Completely unacceptable.
Not sure what the quality standards are from the lector that they publish such a story?!

Best thing in the book is Tony Roberts!

Shakeup

I always love a good Stuart Woods novel!! Humor danger, and love interests galore!! Never a dull moment for the leading man!!”He main Love happens to be the President of the US and they truly do care for one another. So much so that they arrange an “open” relationship due to her heavy responsibilities and his lawyer practice keeping him always on the run, far away from Washington where she resides on the White House . The must have clandestine meetings for them to share their love-making and dreams!! She allows him to dally with other women, Even setting him up at times! He is robbed of his mother’s precious art by some idiot men who totally botch it up, and misadventure ensues . I enjoy the lavish lifestyle of our lawyer and his many cases and interludes with the President !!
