A strong image of life in the western frontier

I've said it before that the author here has a knack for giving the imagery that is needed for life in the western frontier. He holds us readers captive with a strong story line, characters that jump from the pages, and tells it like it is (or likely was) in the old west.

Certainly we have historical record as to the skirmishes and hardships found in America's beginning years, but several other writers wince at telling the truth about what life was really like, and polishing over the grit and character, and sometimes sheer luck it took to survive. Some have chosen to avoid conflict by telling the comfortable romantic story of the west, I'm glad that this author did his research and didn't shy away from some of the gritty details while still engaging in the entertainment of storytelling.

I've lived in the west off and on for years and can attest to some of the landmarks and story basis to this book. The dates, the sentiments and the cowboy/lawman's perspective of the dusty trails all match up. It isn't easy to hear the "hard hitting parts" but the author navigated the challenge appropriately and tactfully threaded the needle between truth and fiction. I look forward to more from both Mr. Heisner and the audio book narrator.

Western Jewel!!!

Great story. It is a good continuation of a western saga or can be read as a stand alone book. A good combination of the traditional western stories and realism of what really occurred in the west. It kept me eager to get back to, when I had to step away from the story. Good character development. Don’t think you will be able to guess what will happen next, the story spins an original tale. I look forward to more stories from the author.
