"This book is a worthy addition in this subject area. Its format, information, and language are both highly accessible and current. A vast range of material is included." (Library Journal)
"Contains new information on the topics of 3D ultrasound and prenatal genetic testing and a new chapter about post-term pregnancies." (Contemporary Ob/Gyn)
"A must for any mom eager to understand every stage of her pregnancy, inside and out." (Los Angeles Family)
This is a good book, with good information, but I've hated it in audiobook, because it jumps around too much. For instance, it will discuss a topic briefly in week five, then refer to more information in week 32 - but on audiobook, you can't just flip to the correct page. I'm also often frustrated by the order of the topics. I'm currently in week 32, and it is just now telling me how much weight I should hope to gain by week 20 (doesn't do me much good now). Finally, it will spend nearly an entire chapter on a topic that doesn't apply to me - yet I have no way to simply flip past that topic. The information is good, but I would highly recommend you just buy the book, rather than messing with the audiobook.
Right is Right
This book was made for First year medical students that want to know everything that could possibly go wrong with a pregnancy "week by week". Me and my expectant wife were very disappointed. This book is 95% downer
The book gives little to no practical information to pregnant women, except for don't smoke and don't drink alcohol during pregnancy.......DUH. It repeated this over and over in every chapter like it was 1949 and it was brand new unknown info. Other than that the book droned out in medical jargon and statistics about all the ills, abnormalities and problems in pregnancy. Simply Teribble. SAVE YOUR TIME. And yes we listen to most of it before we realized the entire thing was just bad.
The book cover picture is very deceiving.
I am an educated Southerner, plowing through books at the speed of light. I love good stories, good coffee, and good conversation.
I have owned previous editions of this book in paperback and have found it to be a great reference. But since I am pregnant with my third, I thought I'd brush up with the new edition on audio.
DO NOT BUY THIS AUDIOBOOK! Pregnancy/creating a new little person is already exhausting enough without being bored into sleep! The narrator acts like she's talking about the most mundane thing, like how to polish silver. And she talks. So. Slowly!
This book is more suited for reading the old-fashioned way. Just get the paperback version and keep it handy. Or if you have insomnia, give this one a try...
