Publisher's summary

Younger Next Year is about how to turn back your biological clock. How to become functionally younger every year for the next five to 10 years, and continue to live with vitality and grace into your 80s and beyond.

Harry's Rules (Harry being Harry S. Lodge, M.D.) are only seven, but they completely reverse the typical path of aging. Exercise six days a week for the rest of your life. Quit eating crap. Connect and commit. And to prove it is his star patient, the no-punches-pulled Chris Crowley, a 70-year-old who left the slippery slope of retirement and turned his life around. Harry tells you what to do. Chris tells you how. And their argument is irresistible.

You're a guy. You have responsibilities. You think about the future, the 401K, the kids' schools. There's one other thing you can't afford not to think about: yourself. Marrying science and reality, Younger Next Year is a convincing and passionate argument that if you train for the Next Third of life, you'll have a ball. Follow its simple rules and you'll find yourself in perhaps the best shape, in mind, body, and spirit, of your life.

A Must Read if You are over 50!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I plan to recommend this book to several friends because it tells you some very practical basic things to do to prepare for the last third of your life - to make it better, more meaningful and active. My husband and I enjoyed it in the car on a long drive and that day when we went to eat...we both were more conscious and ordered better options. I think this is a trend that will stick. The authors don't just say exercise more, eat less crap - they tell you why and make it meaningful!

Listen to this while you exercise!

A great way to motivate yourself to exercise EVERY DAY!!! I enjoyed the interaction of the cheerleader Chris and the technical Harry.

Getting Old doesn't have to suck

This book is very eye opening. We're all raised to think that as we get older we will slow down, things will start to hurt and we will slowly fade away. This book dispels that myth and teaches you exactly what is happening to our bodies, and how todays lifestyle is killing us, literally.

This is not the type of book I would normally read, but I'm glad I did. It has me on the road to living a much longer and more satisfying life then I would have otherwise, and I'm only in my 40's.

While this book is heavily focused on men, the message works for men and women, and I've encouraged many people to read this book, and even gifted it to a few friends. I'm actually excited about my physical future now.

Good self help; great narration

This was a useful book explaining the 'why's' behind the lifestyle changes required to stay young.

The narration was outstanding! Best of any book I have listened to this far.

Entertaining and Motivational

I'm a 40-something woman--not the intended audience for this book--but I loved it. Complex physiological aging processes are explained in a clear and motivational way. So are exercise benefits. I loved the focus on health rather than appearance, and the straightforward, you-can-take-it-you're-a-grownup style. There was plenty of substance for me AND it was HILARIOUS. I find it easier now to do the things I know I should do (eat right, exercise regularly). If I can get my husband to listen to it, I'm sure he will like it.

Great book, better now that I am over 50

What did you love best about Younger Next Year?

It gave practical real life examples on ways to live a healthier life for the rest of my life. Very encouraging.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the anecdotal as well as the science. I could see and feel the benefits.

Which scene was your favorite?

When he was climbing the ladder to go to bed with this lady and all he wanted to do was to go to sleep. That just made me laugh. Let's just say I flew overseas once and just wanted to go to bed (sleep) and was wondering how to get out of my husbandry duties without getting into trouble.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was in the gym working out and people were wondering why i was laughing so much. I really enjoyed the humor in the story telling.

Any additional comments?

Great read, I have passed it on to my friends and since it is audio book I will listen to it many more times this upcoming year.

Good information, poor delivery

The information in this book is a must for anyone "over the hill." There is no reason not to live the second half of your life to its fullest, and to do that your body has to be there for you.

On the other hand I agree with a previous review (that seems to have been removed) that stated that the reading of this book was way over the top, to the point of being annoying. In fact, I skipped through most of the commentary chapters because I just couldn't take it.

If you are looking for a less "clincal" and age focused approach to getting in shape, I also recommend "Body for Life", also available in audio form.
