Publisher's summary

Boys will be boys - always. And no one has a more powerful impact on them than you, Mom. Surprise! Your boy wants to please you, and he cares deeply about what you think. Those driving needs will stay with him throughout his lifetime. That gives you, Mom, a lot of influence over your son. You can set him up for success in life. In What a Difference a Mom Makes, the New York Times best-selling author Dr. Kevin Leman reveals how you can make a positive imprint on your son - from the moment you first hold him in your arms until the moment he leaves for college. And the best news? It's never too late to start, no matter what age your son is now.

Through Dr. Leman's expert advice, you'll understand who your son is on the inside, the truth behind sibling squabbles (and how to handle them), a secret for discipline that works every time, and how to navigate the critical teen years. You'll also discover how your parenting style impacts your relationship with your son and how you can respond in a healthy way to his growing interest in sex and relationships.

Want to capture your boy's heart? Want a man you'll be proud to call your son? You can make a difference, because you are the one who matters most in your boy's world. Even if he won't admit it.

Overall some solid advice - would recommend to new moms of boys

Some is stuff you already know. Some is new information. Some opposes what you thought before. Some confirms your gut feelings. Overall worth the read.

Now and then (especially towards they end) it gets a little religious / preachy.. and touches on subjects of church / having faith in Christ and sex only being for marriage. But it doesn’t condemn those who don’t agree or shove anything down your throat. Rather it just gently promotes some Christian values which aren’t bad values to have anyway. But despite disagreeing with a few sentiments that I felt were outdated or a little too righteous, overall I felt it had a lot of rich thought that would help any mom raise a decent human being who is whole and productive and most importantly happy and confident in who he is.

PHENOMENAL!!! ❤❤❤💙💙💙

During so many parts of this book, I was nodding my head in agreement. Dr. Leman sure knows what he's talking about!!! I'm glad that I listened when my son is only 6 years old. This is already helping me and no doubt will continue to help and guide me as he grows!!! I've learned so much about myself and my husband as well. What an eye-opener!!! 👀

Disappointing

Any additional comments?

Filled with stereotypes. I found myself feeling uncomfortable with the author's assertions, in particular about the character of young boys and how to deal with it. At one point I was listening to the book while working in the kitchen. My husband walked in and said, "What the heck are you listening to?" He also did not agree. So, overall, too many stereotypes that may be unhelpful (and even hurtful) to assist parents in dealing with the complexities and nuances of today's generation.

Just the advice I needed

I found this book during a challenging time in my son’s 8 yr old life. Unfortunately he has had to deal with the divorce between his dad and I and the difficult changes the split has brought. Before reading this book, I felt so powerless in helping him and I was losing hope that his dad’s bad influence would prevail over mine. My son has been struggling with anger, frustration, control issues with me and some anxiety. After listening to all Dr. Leman’s advice and his personal story, I feel more encouraged and empowered on how to help my son grow into the kind I man I want him to become. The advice and direction this books gives mothers is priceless! I’m so glad I found it! I’m going to occasionally re listen to the audio version so I won’t forget all his points.
