Healing ideas and stories for everyone

I loved this recording. The feeling of it is in a conversation style. Dr. Mehl-Medrona tells about his life, his experiences and people he has met along the way. With each new story he told, I could relate to him more, and his ideas were presented in such a way that they are very healing. The concepts and the methods discussed in this program are very accessible, and very welcome. Thank you Audible, and Dr Mehl-Medrona.

Blessings & Wisdom abound

What a gift to listen to an American Indian elder teach Native Wisdom. Imparted with humbleness and compassion for the greater good of the listener to grow through storytelling, & facilitated visualizations.

As a predominantly acculturated urban American Indian Woman, this has been another way of receiving spiritual & cultural navigation of my people.

Dr. Mehl-Madrona so wisely has offered these teachings for all to learn from. A rare sharing of traditional knowledge that is good medicine for all.

Good but for a troubling story....

I enjoyed this book very much until I got to the part where the author is talking about how an elderly medicine man used his power to get sex from his very young female students. The author laughed about it, as if it was admirable how this much older man could use his influence in this way t get sex. I stopped listening at that point and and was disappointed that once again a person who claims to be sharing spiritual wisdom for good, has no problem praising the abuse of power and the exploitation of young and vulnerable seekers.

Good Medicine in a Harsh World

Dr. Mehl-Medrona has a fascinating voice (both masculine and feminine encompassed; you can imagine it as any parent or friend speaking just to you) and believes fully in the power of Story. His voice is fully transformed when singing to Creator. It would be difficult to maintain any level of anxiety while listening to him; hence I often use his programs set at 85% speed as a sleep aid; I fall right to sleep and the "bedtime stories" never get old, even the ones where you are imagining your own heroic, fearless self confronting some obstacle on the path. He speaks from a Lakota perspective that comes across as fairly universal; there is no need to be especially versed in Native cultures. I also bought his Meditations recording but I use both for pretty much the same purposes, relaxation, sleep, anti-anxiety fodder, a friendly voice (especially good because I live a very isolated existence). Good medicine in a harsh world.

Can't verify

He is a noted quack in both medicine and with natives. I didn't research him before I read. but he is doing what a lot of charlatans do,claim Cherokee and sell snake oil. not saying all people who claim Cherokee are fakers, but this guy misrepresents facts and ideas to sell books to white folks who don't know better. He uses language well though. easy to listen to if you ignore the lies.

Could have done without the guided imagery parts

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. There are great stories of healing using indigenous medicine and the complimentary relationships that exist between Western medicine and Native American medicine.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narration is good and makes an easy listen. The parts where the author unnecessarily adds "filler" using guided imagery sessions would have been best left out.

Worth every minute!

This was so well presented and interesting. I would listen to this to-and-from work. Often I get anxiety while driving that can be overwhelming. Listening to this almost eliminated my anxiety driving. Then I’d keep it on at home and found myself in tears when talking about Sun Dance and sweat lodges because the power he talks about is true that I know from experience. 10/10 would recommend!
