Publisher's summary

Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson - New York Times best-selling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers - have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face: the shadow. These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature.

The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up 10 minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.

Combining the wisdom of three experts, The Shadow Effect is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three authors powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.

Incredible arguments for becoming our true magnificent selves.

All three authors helped me to see where I am stuck and how I can become unstuck.

I'm very happy I chose it. Thanks to previous reviewers who helped me choose!

All great except Debbie Ford

What did you love best about The Shadow Effect?

Deepak Chopra's part.

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

Debbie Ford: no way. The other two: probably

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Debbie Ford's way of reading made me want to cry. I skipped that section instead.

Any additional comments?

I find Debbie Ford's choice of language very "Hollywood". She uses words like "superstar" to describe our higher self. In addition, her voice is beyond annoying. It's not the actual sound of her voice, which is kind of nice, but the way and tone in which she reads the material. She sounds very inauthentic and superficial. Her overall writing and reading style are, to me, very "American". After maybe 5 minutes I decided to skip over her part of the book.Marianne Williamson uses the word "god" a lot. I know what she means, and I just substitute the word "spirit" or "universe"...but if the word "god" is difficult for you, as it is for me, then it may be hard to listen to her.Deepak Chopra's part was excellent, although his reading style is rather dry and flat. I got used to it though and I really enjoyed his part.I found it hard to rate this audiobook, because the parts that touched me did so deeply and have changed the way I look at other people and the difficult relationships in my life. I have done a lot of therapy and workshops and read a lot of these types of books, and yet this was something new and different.Overall worth the annoying bits!

An inspring book

If you are not fulfilled in your life, this book will be a MUST-READ book. One of the cores of the book is focusing on our dark side, SHADOW, which many people try to ignore or suppress to head for bright aspects of their life. But SHADOW is like a beach ball held in the water and therefore it can come up to the surface anytime. Instead, the authors recommend us to embrace both bright and shadow sides of our life so that we will be healed and fulfilled. So if you are tired to read "positive thinking books" this book will be a breakthrough. But the concept in the book is not new. Dr Demartini has been teaching the concept since years ago. I strongly recommend you to read both this book and Dr Demartini's books to deepen your understandings.

There are two parts to all of us

Most people don’t even realize their suppressing part of themselves. We hear that little voice in our head to take a chance or not to take a chance then we ignore it. That is the part you're suppressing. I have friends that won’t do anything that they haven’t done before and their lives are cookie cutter cutouts of the day before. They say they want to change and if you suggest ways they explode. They have large amounts of suppressed anger and rage toward life and people in them. They also walk around all day with a face on that says ‘life if perfect’ and they do this at home as well. Then one day they just can’t do it anymore and everything come tumbling out. This is their Shadow and it is the part they’ve suppressed. Beside Shamanic work I haven’t seen nor heard of anyone putting together this much information in one place to help people deal with it. I’m not a fan of Deepak, so for me to say I’ve passed this book on to others is a huge deal. Give it a go and may learn something that will with time improve your life.

Awesome Insight into self and other

Many of us have ways of viewing ourselves and others that cause conflict, bad feelings, judgement and self-sabotaging behavior. Learning about how these get programmed, how they work, and how they can deceive us is one of the most important and powerful things we can ever learn.
