Publisher's summary

Americans spend more than $11 billion a year on self-help products—everything from books to diet pills to career coaches to seminars. So why—with all this time, money, and energy being spent—are so FEW people living the life they really want? Why are millions of smart, talented, motivated people still going through life with one foot on the brake? Here’s the REAL secret: You don’t need any more how-to-succeed information to reach your full potential.

The problem isn’t lack of motivation or lack of information. The real problem is that most people focus on the “how-to” aspects of success taught by traditional self-help programs, without coming to terms with what productivity expert Noah St. John calls your “head trash”—the subconscious, emotional roadblocks that prevent people from acting on their real hopes, dreams, and ambitions.

In this groundbreaking book, based on work with thousands of clients around the world, Noah St. John has created a remarkable, step-by-step approach that helps you achieve long-term happiness, success, and wealth. In The Secret Code of Success, you will learn how to:

  • Eliminate the causes of self-sabotage and fear of success
  • Allow yourself to make more money
  • Remove stress while dramatically increasing personal productivity
  • Improve relationships with coworkers, family and friends
  • Experience enhanced feelings of happiness, connection, and love
  • The Secret Code of Success shows that, when it comes to success, the conscious mind is exactly the wrong place to start. It’s only when we first conquer the self-sabotage of our subconscious (which accounts for 90 percent of our behavior) that we can truly begin to enjoy a life filled with success. This insight is at the core of The Secret Code of Success and leads to Noah’s revolutionary 7-step method for eliminating these psychological obstacles.

    Easy to understand and implement

Would you consider the audio edition of The Secret Code of Success to be better than the print version?

I enjoy hearing the words spoken, and take notes, especially when the author is doing the reading. ALSO...If you email him he will send you a pdf to print out the 'workbook' questions for your journal-ing efforts, which are key in this. Also...he suggests listening to the book more than once which I will do....I like Audible and the fact you can put memos on the bookmarks. This helps a lot while listening to a self help book.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Secret Code of Success?

Many great ideas on what to do when you feel unworthy or can't find your next step.

    Terrific information!

Love the concept of AFFORMATIONS—asking questions that cause our brains to work on our behalf. Tons of other awesome info as well! Will read again and again. Highly recommend.

A good point, but very drawn out

Noah St. John talks about replacing affirmations (saying positive things) with afformations (asking positive questions) in order to switch from saying things you don't really believe (and thus lead to a negative result, at least for the majority of us) to asking positive questions that engage our brains. Our brains work to solve problems and answer questions, so by asking 'why am I healthy/wealthy/happy/etc' (instead telling yourself 'I am wealthy' when you do not believe it), your brain subconsciously starts working on the that question. You will start thinking in new ways, gaining insight to make changes for a positive outcome toward your positive question.
Four steps in the affirmation process:
    1. Ask yourself what you want.
    2. Form a question that assumes that what you want is already true.
    3. Let you mind search for the answer.
    4. Take new actions based on your new assumptions about life. (This last one is a bit nebulous to me, but the key is to take new actions based on the new insights/thoughts that result from asking and repeating to yourself your positive question.)

The Secret Code of Success Recap:
    1. Find your 'because'. Your 'why to'.
    How?
    a. Define your core competencies.
    i. Start with writing down your strengths (validate the list with others to get their confirmation or additions/deletions).
ii. Then write down your skills.
iii. Define your desires (like 'what would an average perfect day look like?')

    2. Identify your avenues of expression
    a. Reveal who you really are
    b. Review your roles
    c. Resolve to persist

    3. Release your spirit
    a. Forgive your past
    b. Appreciate your present
    c. Step into your best future.

Final advice: Learn, Do, and Teach.

For those of us who are bottom-liners rather than 'take me on the journey and tell me lots of descriptions, repeatedly', you may get frustrated by the repetition of the 'why' rather than focusing on the 'how'. So the downside of this book is that it could have been presented in an hour rather than closer to six hours. You have to pay attention to the key points when they come up and not get frustrated by all of the description/filler.

    Aha! The Real Secret

This is a great book with an incredible "AHA" and then how to put it to practice in each area of your life. If you tried other methods of getting around your self-sabotage and had no success, this is a great book for you. I'm already starting to see changes in areas of my life from putting the technique to use. "You have not because you ask not" (James 4:2) becomes more significant than even imagined before.

I'm looking up his other books. It's helpful to have a journal or utilize one while going through this book.
