Good for an intro to the Law of Attraction

I am giving this book 4 stars, not because the author was so spectacular, but because I think this book is very important as an intro to the Law of Attraction for people who really don't know much about it. After getting turned on to this stuff, and you want to know more, I recommend looking into Ask and It Is Given by Esther & Jerry Hicks, The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer, and my favorite, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire by Deepak Chopra. You will also hear a lot of quotes from other people in The Secret, I suggest looking deeper into their work if one of their quotes is especially meaningful to you.

You say potato, I say potahtoe

This book deals with what the author says is the immutable law of attraction that rules the unverse, just as the law of gravity. The premise is that you can get what you want, be it money, fame, love, good health, a parking space, just by asking, believing and waiting.

Good things happen to those people who emit positive (what I call) vibes, and bad to those who emit bad vibes and that everything that happens to us is because of these "vibes" we emit.

I'd have to disagree with the premise of this book. Bad things happen to good people, regardless of their vibes, and sometimes good stuff happens to bad people. I just don't believe that the people who were killed in 9/11 brought it on themselves because they attracted it.

However, I do believe that our thoughts do influence our lives and that if we "believe it, we can achieve it." What the author calls the law of attraction, some people call postive attitude and others call, faith.

So read this book for what it's worth and draw your own conclusion; an interesting read, but not entirely factual or believeable.

You're better off with the DVD

I normally prefer the complete, unabridged version of most Audiobooks, for maximum reading pleasure. In "The Secret," however, I found the unabridged audio version contrary to the themes and purpose of the book: There's too much negativity. Interviewed experts rant ad nauseum, with far too many examples of how our negativity affects us.

I watched the abridged DVD several months after discarding the present audiobook. The 90-minute DVD format was both tight and focused. The downside of negativity was appropriately presented, without being "dragged out" at the reader's and the book's emotional expense.

Not Recommended.

Not worth the time

A rare occurrence for me, but I gave up on this book about 1 hour and 45 minutes into it. The concepts just don’t work for me; frankly I believe it’s a bunch of dribble. Does the universe vibrate, and if I think the right things, in the right way, all will come true? Perhaps further into the book something more substantive is offered, I just could not wait for it. Not worth the money or time.

perspective

I think it it a great book on audible but its a book that walks a fine line on being great and completely awful...let me explain...well, I believe your opinion of the book it going to be based solely on how literally you believe in the "secret" as described by the book ...meaning...if you take it as "if i think it..it well come "...you will think the book is a joke ..and idiotic..and some reviews i think reflect that...yet on the other hand I say its a great book because on the other side of things(how I take the message) is from the "perspective" that if you believe in something and keep a tunnel vision type focus on achieving it...anything is is possible..i think the book is truly about ones focus...simple as that...some say its like an 'adult fairytale" but isnt that the same as a person's having dream to create something from nothing (or like such goal as creating ones business,etc)...so again...how you take the words of the book will be how you view it...rather as a terrible book or great inspiration.

Not new, but wonderfully delivered.

You've probably heard most of the messages in this book because they've been around for ages and the overall secret is alarmingly simple to comprehend and practice - and I can tell you from first hand experience it works. The real gem of this audio book is that this story is masterfully crafted and lovingly delivered. There's passion from the first word and it's infectious. This is a first class production and a very enjoyable listen. Don't be surprised if you end up with all you asked for... that's it!

Great information, weak delivery

While I like the subject matter and feel that it is important, I don't think it offers anything new, nor does it deliver it in a particularly effective or enjoyable manner. I found it very similar to parts of the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Also, similar information is available from Dwyer, Chopra, Myss, and even Brian Tracy if you venture to the business section.

Your Guide to Materialistic Obsession

I agree with the content of this book in most ways. I think our minds do in fact create our lives. However, I think it is a waste to focus that power on gaining material possessions, as seems to be the focus of this book. There must be something more useful than stuff (houses, cars, and bikes, as suggested in the book) to manifest in ones life.

Wonderful

Read it..over and over again until it clicks. If you are not ready, put it aside until it calls you. It puts in easy to understand language much of what most religions have taught for ages (without the need for control). Listen carefully. And think back on your own experiences to find that what is being said is true. Even if you don't believe, you'll at the very least begin to think about your thoughts and maybe you'll end up happier. Worth the investment.

fantastic

This is one of those incredible life changing books. In addition, the recording is superb. Once in a while a book has more impact in the audio version and this is a perfect example. I would say a person would be better off listening than reading in this case.
