The foundations of capitalism are being battered by a flood of altruism, which is the cause of the modern world's collapse. This was the view of Ayn Rand, a view so radically opposed to prevailing attitudes that it constituted a major philosophic revolution. In this series of essays, she presented her stand on the persecution of big business, the causes of war, the default of conservatism, and the evils of altruism.

The idea of being successful is an attractive dream that fills us with positive emotions. However, the actions required to be successful at work, in our relationships, in sports competition, are often difficult and lengthy. Therefore, even though we want to be successful, happy and influential. very few of us take the specific actions that will actually move us directly toward those goals. So what do we need to bridge the gap between what we say we want, and what we must do to achieve it? We need goal-oriented motivation.

We live in the age of speed. We strain to be more efficient, to cram more into each minute, each hour, each day. Since the Industrial Revolution shifted the world into high gear, the cult of speed has pushed us to a breaking point. Consider these facts: Americans on average spend 72 minutes of every day behind the wheel of a car, a typical business executive now loses 68 hours a year to being put on hold, and American adults currently devote on average a mere half hour per week to making love.

Publisher's summary
The genius of this benchmark work continues to shine through today, and its message continues to be of critical importance as we enter the 21st century. The Psychology of Self-Esteem presents a brilliant concept of the intertwining of human nature, mental health and illness, and the conditions necessary for the achievement of mental well-being.
Here is the work that provided the genesis for so many concepts that today we take for granted. Here is an accessible, clear explanation of the true meaning of self-esteem, the relation of reason and emotion, the nature of free will, and the powerful impact of self-esteem on motivation, work, friendship, sex, and romantic love. This classic work is fresh, contemporary, and as vital and powerful as the day it was written. It remains a revolutionary contribution to man's understanding of himself.
Critic reviews
"Nathaniel Branden will undoubtedly rank as one of the great psychologists of the 20th century." (Colin Wilson, author of The Outsider)

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

He also critiques Freudian psychology as a pseudoscience and warns against the dangerous overreach of psychiatry into all aspects of modern life.

Story
Who needs philosophy? Ayn Rand's answer: Everyone. This collection of essays was the last work planned by Ayn Rand before her death in 1982. In it, she summarizes her view of philosophy and deals with a broad spectrum of topics. According to Ayn Rand, the choice we make is not whether to have a philosophy, but which one to have: a rational, conscious, and therefore practical one, or a contradictory, unidentified, and ultimately lethal one.

Nathaniel Branden is the foremost expert in self-esteem. He explains what self-esteem is, why it's important, and how to improve it. Something that teachers, parents and the government are only able to pay lip service to.

foundational, and brilliant
The psychology and philosophy in this program is not just another flavour of self help. This workl deals with the nature of man, and what it means to live successfully as a human being. Self-esteem is only a part of this - an indispensable part to be sure, but only a part nonetheless. Buy this audio, listen to it, consider it, and listen to it again... and again... until the full implications are clear to you. This is brilliant brilliant work and the philisophy behind this holds the key IMO to successful survival of the human species. I'm not exaggerating. Forget the bible - we need this more. Enjoy!

This book is so good. I have listed many many times. I can again listen to it. This book is so informative. I also bought the physical book so I can refer to some paragraphs. This is my favorite author of all times on this subject. I recommend it to everyone. When you finish listening you will feel better and confident above all because you know how human psychology works. Love it!

If you need a text book on deep, psychological aspects of self esteem, then this is the book for you. I was disappointed with the whole over all feel of the book and was looking for something a little less wordy and easier to listen to.

The roadmap to building pillars to self esteem.
I am interested in the concept of self-esteem and I liked the entire content of this book. I read Nathaniels other books and this in particular explains the psychological basics for understanding self-esteem concept and in my opinion is best preparation for the building of the six pillars of self esteem. Branden’s “The six pillars of self esteem “ is more like a manual, “The psychology of self esteem “ is like a roadmap.
