Publisher's summary

In her most provocative book yet, Dr. Laura urgently reminds women that to take proper care of their husbands is to ensure themselves the happiness and satisfaction they yearn for in marriage.

Women want to be in love, get married, and live happily ever after. Yet disrespect for men and disregard for the value, feelings, and needs of husbands has fast become the standard for male-female relations in America. Those two attitudes clash in unfortunate ways to create struggle and strife in what could be a beautiful relationship.

Countless women call Dr. Laura, unhappy in their marriages and seemingly at a loss to understand the power they have over their men to create the kind of home life they yearn for. Now, in The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, Dr. Laura shows you how to wield that power to attain all the sexual pleasure, intimacy, love, joy, and peace you want in your life. With real-life examples, and real-life solutions, Dr. Laura's simple principles have changed the lives of millions. Now they can change yours.

Critic reviews

"Like many of the author's best-selling books and audios, this is a groundbreaking and refreshing lesson. Schlessinger's own friendly and youthful narration makes the presentation a joy to hear in spite of the jarring nature of her message." (AudioFile)

New to the Game

Being newly married for the first time, at 51, the past two years have been a huge learning experience for me. A year and a half into the marriage I found that I didn't know what the heck I was doing and I didn't know how to make it any better. I thought maybe I needed to do some counseling and I was making a lot of The mistakes that Dr. Laura talks about.

A friend of mine recommended this book to me and I instantly got it on Audible's because I drive an hour and a half to work each day.

I really respect Dr. Laura philosophy. She is not completely to the right side or to the left. She has a very good balance of traditionalism, Bible-based philosophy but is very practical in that she is dealing with the modern world and modern issues but that the relationship between men and women is as old as Adam and Eve.

I love her straight forward tone and attitude and I love laughing at my own stupidity and naivety and understanding the way things work so that I can be a better wife.

Thank you so much Dr. Laura for your knowledge and wisdom.

So good

As a woman who is soon to be married, and an avid listener to her call of the day podcast I knew that this book was something I needed to read. This audio book brought the pages to life and made it even better. Dr. Laura lays it all out, plain and simple. Solves the seemingly complicated problem with real common sense solutions. Helps us women become more self aware so we can love and care for our husbands and in turn ourselves.

Excellent point of view!

We all need help as wives to focus on the positives of our husbands and not the negatives ....The wife is the heart of the home and our satisfaction and happiness radiates to our family.

What a wake up call!

I was raised by a feminist single mom who left my dad (a good, stable man) when I was 3, opting to raise us in poverty rather than do the hard work of personal growth. She always taught me that I didn't need a man, and all that mattered was landing a good career. So, I worked my butt off in school and got perfect grades and a scholarship and did everything she said, only to end up with a useless liberal arts degree, impoverished after college, working as a waitress because I couldn't cut it as a teacher. Following her lead, I treated men with a lot of disrespect and even disdain, as much as I craved being loved and cherished by them. Just like my mom, I became addicted to booze and dated alcoholics. I shacked up with my boyfriend at the age of 20 to save money, and from there had a string of toxic/abusive long term relationships. A couple years ago, at the age of 33, I pulled my head out of my you-know-what, got sober, and got back together with the only good man I've ever dated. We just got married a couple weeks ago, and I listened to this book hoping to learn a few things about being a good wife and making our marriage last. I was not disappointed! This book provides so much good information about men, what they need and want from their women, and how to avoid all ways society teaches us to sabotage our relationships with them. This was all probably common sense even 60 years ago, but these days it's rarely heard and probably "offensive" to many "woke" women. But as someone who has seen the full repercussions of what the feminist ethos does to women, children, and families, I'm resolved to do better. This book teaches that it is perfectly respectable, and even admirable, to put your family first, raise your own kids, have sex with your husband when he wants it, and be a sweet and loving presence in your home. I don't find any of that offensive!
